Economy 50,106 Posted March 24, 2021 Share Posted March 24, 2021 Honestly in my opinion i think the threshold and bar for whats considered cultural appropriation is really low I understand if someone is mocking a culture, perpetuating or sending a message of stereotypes in some way, or wearing something that is suppostu be highly sensitive in ones culture that has ties with religion or some cultural tradition for some event of big meaning etc... cuz in such cases other ppl dont have business dressing up in something they dont even understand But theres hairstyles or jewlery that are more popular in some cultures (say hoops or brading in Jamaican culture) that i dont get why its such a big deal if ppl like it and are influenced by it and wanna wear it too Especially given some of the developed world like USA, Canada for example is a culture that is a mix of a multitude of cultures and we should all be contributing not being segregated into groups all the time for everything imo We complain some minorities dont have the same level of influence in entertainment and culture they deserve but tbh if any influence from them is branded off limits doesnt that just make it worse?
