Oh c'mon.

We don't know what he feels "deep inside him". It's not even that radical of a decision since he is already a Grammy winner.

I'm sure getting snubbed hurt, but I see no reason to believe this will somehow haunt him for the rest of his life.

It's just a very clear "up yours" as a reply to the snub (which, say what you want, is extremely suspicious).

In the grand scheme of things, neither he nor the award will mean much to the other.

I really don't get the reasoning. If anything, I'd want to keep submitting because there would be a big chance I'd get nominated in future because the Grammys want to save face and correct their "error." And then it's a boost to your ego as you rub their nose in it. I feel he'll regret this when he sees artists winning in his categories in future. Regardless of how much stock you put in award ceremonies, everyone feels a rush of euphoria when they get nominated and/or win something, that can't be denied. Why you'd want to shut yourself off from that is truly baffling.
