Cher legit hasn’t released an original album in a decade. I hope she takes those notes and burns them

Oh, really? That's interesting. Shows how out of touch I am with Madonna fans. I always thought Madame X was very well-received by fans because of how 'different' it was. Rebel Heart, I thought, was considered quite basic and trendy... which I don't totally agree with. I think it is very radio friendly but it also has the Madonna stamp.

Madame X was well received by most critics. Fans did not like it. I think some are turning to admire it now tho. I feel like a lot of fans love Rebel Heart because it is pure pop fun dance.

I agree about MDNA which was a terrible era but what about Madame X? That was so high concept and classic Highbrow Artsy Madge, not Trend-Chasing Trap Clerb Madge

“There's a difference between a pop star and an artist. Pop stars have to be perfect all the time; an artist is allowed, on occasion, to suck. And I put myself in that category because I sometimes suck. I'm not trying to please the masses. It's not going to happen, so I don't try.”

This is such a good quote :saladga: I wanna make it my signature. Thanks for sharing

Mte.

I'm a Madonna fan and at first was a little sad at all the negative topics addressed in Madame X.  But I only watch happy feel-good movies anymore because there is so much negativity in the news that I don't want to have any negativity in entertainment.  The Madame X concert I attended slayed me, but some of the imagery on the screens behind Madonna was devastating.  It seems all the world problems were addressed, even the bad water in Flint, Michigan.

But, as you say, I admire the album now, and think her concept is important.  And the fact that it is different just shows that Madonna still evolves and presents new things.  And she does what she wants.  She doesn't care that many of her fans crave, as you say, pure pop fun dance.  I love her independent thinking.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I don't have time to read through this entire thread (I'm sure others have mentioned it), but have you listened to Madame X? Some of the songs try to cater to modern popular music but it's mostly very unique and experimental. I feel like she was trying to get back into the mainstream pop world for awhile, but she's started moving away from that again. I don't love Madame X as a whole (some of the lyrics are just... girl :madge:) but it has some great moments and certainly doesn't play it safe or feel like she's selling out.

The same woman who is open about cosmetic surgery and has gone on record to say she hates the idea of aging? I know she'd laugh at this. She also hasn't been a full time pop star since 2001.

I think possibly her divorce affected her for a while, especially during the MDNA era. However, I think she has gotten better artistically since then, staring with Rebel Heart, and even more so with Madame X.

Lucas

She clearly tried hard to stay relevant with Hard Candy and MDNA which lead into 2 bad albums from her but she went back on the right track with Rebel Heart and Madame X imo.

To be honest Madame X has strong tracks but the album itself is a bit confusing

You have the woke songs like Dark Ballet, God Control, Batuka, I Rise, Extreme Occident, KWAP and the fun/non-woke songs like Faz Gostoso, Bitch I'm Loca, Medellin, Crazy, Crave...
You got the experimental songs and the more commercial/appealing songs

I don't know about other people but it feels weird to me to go from a woke song to a non-woke song and from experimental to basic at almost every song the album

I think that’s the point of the record. Like Madame X is supposed to be an enigma. Someone who is influenced by many different cultures and sounds. Someone who can be woke and also dance. (Madame X is a cha cha instructor, Madame X is a head of state). Yes it is a politically influenced album and even some of the “basic” songs do have some sort of purpose to usher that (ok maybe not Bitch I’m Loca lol) but I more-so see the general thread of the album is just the world influence. That is what I see as the concept. The true identity of the album is that she cam go from Disco to Reggaeton to Jamaican Dancehall to Fado to Morna to a Russian ballet to African Gnawa. It’s these cultural threads that weave the story together. We go to Disco where in the US there is a total lack of Gun safety laws. We go to Gnawa and Batuque where we see the birth of slavery.
