ShayCristoforo 10,607
I think she lost her way because she is still trying desperately to prove something. But she actually has nothing to prove. I'm not a huge fan but I know she is THE queen. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.
UnknownUser71 2,878
She raised (her own) bar WAY TOO MUCH. You may not agree but personally from Like a Prayer to Confessions SHE DID WHAT NOBODY DID. Great music, amazing and "conceptual albums", breathtaking visuals, UNIQUE TOUR/SHOWS/PERFORMANCES, iconic music videos (Ray of Light, Bedtime Story, Erotica, Like a Prayer, Don't Tell Me...) After confessions she "lost" her artistic touch and tried to stay relevant (I like Hard Candy and MDNA though...) Thankfully, Madame X is very impressive (instant ), ignoring of course "Bitch I'm Loca"... we don't know her. I Don't Search I Find is one of her BEST SONGS OF ALL TIME. ABSOLUTE BANGER. EDIT: Let's take a moment to appreciate the combo that "Sky Fits Heaven - Shanti/Ashtangi - Frozen - The Power Of Goodbye" is.

I know she'd laugh at this. She also hasn't been a full time pop star since 2001. Cher has 12 years of age and like 15 years of career on Madonna. I wasn’t talking about literal age and appearance, I was talking about career moves. Madonna could’ve stopped making albums at Rebel Heart, and embraced her legacy instead, like Cher has. Cher has put out albums and projects into her 70s and still embraced her legacy and that’s all she needs. When covid is over, she will go right back to touring her 6 decades of hits and go back to her Vegas residency and still sell a ton of tickets just like she has done in the past. Madonna and Cher are not the same person, but if Madonna would’ve chose the same template as Cher, I think she’d be in a better position and have a better reputation today. Cher’s last big hit was Believe at 54 years old and it has and will define the last of her career and she can keep touring it until she dies. Madonnas last big hit was 4 Minutes at 50 years old and she could’ve done the same thing with it. Madonna is a legend, but the way she has attempted to stay relevant since 2012 won’t end her career on the brightest note. I hope her movie does well though, it could pull her out of it. Yes Madonna could stop and cradle her legacy like Cher has but she obviously doesn’t want to and I don’t want her to either. She obviously doesn’t care about her overall reputation anymore or else she wouldn’t have release such a bold and bizarre piece of work like Madame X. Why do you expect Madonna to have to rely on her legacy. Madonna has always had her eye on her reputation but almost never forced herself to improve it. If she worried so desperately about reputation albums like Erotica, Ray of Light, Music, American Life, and Madame X might not have happened. Those are all out of the box unpopular sounds. Luckily Ray of Light was praised for the genius that it is but in no way is it a commercial album at least prior to its release. I think fans care a lot more about her reputation than she does. And honestly why should she? She’s gonna do what she wants to do while she’s alive. Why cater to something that only benefits when you’re gone 🤷🏻♂️ "My name is Dita, I'll be your Mistress tonight..." The whole point of Madonna is that she's breaking that template. Cher has been doing the same show in Vegas since the 2000s, and it's basically the same show she continues to take on the road 20 years later. That's hardly a creatively fulfilling life, but Cher is a very different artist than Madonna to begin with. This is the same woman who "forgot" to make an album for over a decade because she doesn't have that itch or need to evolve or create. Madonna does. I understand and respect that totally, and I understand that they are two very different icons, I just would’ve liked to see madonnas careers form into something like Cher and Dolly Parton’s into their older years. I feel like Madonna releasing her movie and embracing her story and legacy is a perfect step in this direction.
Jose P 23,341
Lemme just say I’m so happy there are many Madame X stans here. It’s truly one of her best albums, and I know it’s definitely going to go the American Life route where people will grow to appreciate it with time. Critics liked it for a very good reason, especially after they trashed her previous three albums.

I just wish Madonna’s career would’ve ended up more like that, and it still could. Her movie is a big step in that direction, so she can remind a lot of people about her story and legacy. But I definitely don’t want her to go in the Cher direction and just basically cease to be an artist altogether. It all goes back to her creating a new path for herself and opening up those doors for other artists to have that option as well, to either follow or create something new again. Ya it makes me kinda sad when I see people really rip into Madonna for still acting sexy and sexual, and that it's inappropriate for "someone her age" or suddenly unclassy and distasteful once you're over 30 or whatever the ridiculous limit is on pop girls. Like, we're all getting older and someday I'm gonna be her age and I'm still gonna enjoy sex and feeling sexy for myself and others, damn it Idk I feel sad that "older" people face pressure to hide away their sexual drive and cover up like prudes because other people find the notion of them still having sex like they did when they were younger to be 'gross' or whatever. I enjoy seeing Madonna be like "well f*** that, I'm still a sexual being" ⚡🐲
