FfFfFfFF 58,111 Posted March 11, 2021 Share Posted March 11, 2021 Out in Australia's southern Great Barrier Reef in the state of Queensland, a rare albino turtle hatchling has been spotted venturing into the waters after emerging from its nest. The researchers who came across the tiny hatchling making its way into the ocean, off Lady Elliot Island, were caught by surprise at its physical appearance. It was pink like flesh with red eyes, and had visibility problems. “I pulled out a bit of sand [and] he or she was in the middle of it. I was very shocked. It was pretty special to witness,” Buckman told Guardian Australia from the Great Barrier Reef’s southernmost coral cay. Her colleague Jim Buck, who has been involved in turtle monitoring work on the reef for more than 30 years, estimated that just one in every 100,000 eggs laid would result in an albino hatchling.
