Someone: I respect my Queen.

Me: You "respect" the Queen? Does she know who you are? What has she done to improve the lives of those in her country and the commonwealth?

Someone: The Queen represents history and traditions and helps a huge amount of charities.

Me: Whose money are they using for those charities? "Representing" history does not equal a positive thing. Hitler "represents" a very ugly part of history, so that's not a valid point. She also represents colonism which it's definitely not a good thing. Let me know when your queen ends with the poverty, racism, double standards, etc. that her own ancestors created (and still perpetuate) with a system that has very clearly shown it only benefits very very few. If anything, having to "support" that huge amount of charities is a very obvious example of the enormous amount of people who have suffered consequences of belonging (without their consent) to this unequal and unjust system rather than benefitting from it, to the point where your queen and the establishment have to use "charities" to help those affected by their actions and the history that she, her people and her ancestors represent.

IMO what makes this even worse is the Palace clearly works hand in hand with these horrible so-called journalists.

I knew these people would defend the royal family no matter what but to just make stuff up before anything even happened is just... wow :saladga:

As an American and a POC (Latino), I’ve always have been mystified by the Royal Family because of the romanticism associated with their history, glamour, the movies, the fairy tales, so and so forth. However, when you peel back the layers it’s hard to deny what they’ve truly represented and how their involvement as an institution changed the world around us throughout history in a significant way. I don’t think the UK monarchy will survive after the Queen’s death. From what I gather, most people are against Prince Charles taking the mantle after his disgusting behavior related to Diana and now the speculation that he might’ve been allegedly “concerned” with the outcome of his grandson’s skin tone. These people no longer represent the world around us. All I’ve ever known about the Royal family is their tendency to abuse their power.
