I disagree with any cultural or religious oppression of women or any other target group. But I am only comfortable actively arguing against something I am truly familiar with and understand the context. If we're talking about Islam, though, for instance, I have very little familiarity with the religion as a whole, and I recognize that most of what I have learned about it is through a Western lens. I recall when I was younger, I felt pity for any woman wearing a hijab because I believed that meant they were being oppressed. But then I watched some interviews with women who described wearing hijab as empowering. I'm sure there's a whole range of opinions from women about how wearing hijab makes them feel, but it did open my eyes and made me realize that in these types of situations, I simply don't have the context to make these types of broad judgments, and therefore can't really make valid arguments.

What many ppl forget too is muslim is a general religious cetegory just like christianity

 

Christianity for example has Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Orthodox, Pentecostal, Jehova's Witnesses, Morman's, Born Again, 7 Day Adventists etc etc etc some a little more strict on some things than others

 

Muslism likewise also have sub denominations and some are stricter than others ane vary by Nation as well also. For example in Saudi Arabia they are super radical about woman and how they have to behave and dress... in Jordan or Lebanon for example typically they arent forced tonwear any covering of any type and most use it by choice, its more culturally a habit and seen as good because its modest but not a hardcore rule per say

 

So it varies a lot by type of muslim and region

Unfortunately he is just saying what a lot of ultra conservative churches believe. Women are somehow responsible for men's transgressions.

Sorry to get super-personal, but the stuff that this guy says terrifies me -- it's a big part of why I'm anorexic, because I'm so afraid that most people think the exact same way he does (but they just don't usually say it out loud):

In his sermon, he explained that women need to lose weight and submit to the sexual desires of their husbands to keep the men from straying.

Clark also said wives need to wear makeup, dress nicely, have nice hair and appear less “butch.”

Clark continued to ask why women “let themselves go after marriage” and reiterated that men only marry for good looks and sex.

Clark also claimed this topic is “so important” that a friend of his has put a weight limit on his wife before he would divorce her.

Like... how much of this is true or widely accepted?? I'm so afraid of my husband never touching me again or even leaving me if I ever try to get back up to a healthy weight from being underweight I've heard SO MANY guys talk about their GFs/wives like this SO OFTEN my entire life.

I have thyroid issues and PCOS, it's a bitch to lose weight, I also have terrible acne and you know what? I still feel beautiful in my own way, whether it be makeup or taking a walk outside to get my blood circulating or eating better. I can still feel beautiful mentally. No wonder I'm still single, guys like that scare me and women too, I'm afraid they'll tear my self esteem down.

I mean, there you have it y'all. It's not the pastor. It's the entire religion. This is all literally in the bible and Christians choosing to ignore it does not change the fact that they follow a sexist religion - same goes for most other religions.

Sweetheart! **** that man! If your husband is like that it would be a good riddance to get rid of him. Before you marry someone you should be comfortable enough to at least ask him this question. So remember to do it.
