Sweden, Denmark, Push Ahead With Covid-19 Vaccine Passport

Denmark and Sweden say they are developing systems for digital vaccine certification, known as "vaccine passports," allowing travelers to prove they have had an anti-coronavirus injection. The scheme will act as record for anyone wishing to travel - both domestically and internationally to countries that require proof of inoculation.

It is aimed at accelerating the reopening of air travel and assisting the revival of national economies. Denmark's acting finance minister, Morten Bodskov, says an online registry will be in operation by the end of February and that the system should be fully in place by around June.

Thomas Bustrup, from the confederation of Danish Industry, told CGTN Europe he saw it taking the form of a phone app, including three bits of key information – whether someone has had a vaccination, whether they have been tested and what the result was and, thirdly, whether the person has had COVID-19, so may still have antibodies.

Both countries have also hinted that the system could potentially be widened, to allow attendance at sports and cultural events.

Other European countries that have said they are either considering, or developing, vaccine passport systems at present include Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain.

In Hungary, those who have already been vaccinated or have been infected within 6 months receive a so-called "coronavirus protection certificate". It will be a plastic card, but there will also be an app added. Those who are already eligible will receive the card by March 15th. We don’t know yet what benefits will be associated with the card, as we are in the middle of the third wave right now, but the vaccination program is going strong.

I half agree. Its true these vaccines arent gonna end pandemic overnight and we dokt know how micj spread rate is reduced with shots but thats just it... this virus may stick around potentially for many years. Were not just gonna stop lofe forever

At least with vaccines the spread rate should at least be reduced and the person themselves also less likely to get sick

Another importsnt factor to consider os that this would encourage people to actually get it which is critical

Theres no perfect decisions in a global pandemic... but theres definitely good strategies to minimize impacts and try to accelerate the end of pandemic

Why do they need to call it that way? Passport just has a very nationalistic ring to it.

Why don't they just follow the yellow fever (and others) vaccine example and just issue a document called the "International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP)" once both doses have been applied to a person?

Vaccines do not prevent you from getting the virus and spreading it, it probably lower the chances but It only minimise the symptoms (you're going to be a symptomatic).

Vaccine passports are a false friend, the only way to combat this is to either prevent cross-border travel OR provide adequate healthcare en masse

You already know cross border travel cannot be banned forever. So I am not sure why you even suggested that?

And not sure what the healthcare point was about? Lots of European countries that got healthcare are still very severely crippled when Covid-19 attacks.

The point of this passport is to filter out the non/anti vaxxed people from traveling and create another chain of outbreak since they are high risk people.

To expand on this:

“Israel's largest healthcare provider on Sunday reported a 94% drop in symptomatic COVID-19 infections among 600,000 people who received two doses of the Pfizer's vaccine in the country's biggest study to date.”

This is why enough people need to be vaccinated so we can get back to normal. Even if you do become infected the vaccine will assure you are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms. No hospitalizations and no deaths.

We are still waiting on studies on how likely you are to transmit the virus if you are fully vaccinated and become infected.

Not really though. If you're vaccinated, you'll likely only have mild symptoms or being asymptomatic if you catch the virus. During the trials, no one with the vaccine died or had to be hospitalized due to Covid. The bigger issue is you could still spread it to someone who's not vaccinated even if you yourself have been vaccinated, but over time, if we achieve herd immunity, we should be able to get back to normal.

No, we aren't screwed. Viruses on the level of COVID-19 will take a while to fully come under man-made control. It seems bleak at this point, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Hell, even though we have vaccines for many viruses they are still present today; we just have a better control of them.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
