And if he didn’t do that and Manchin votes no, the whole bill is out the window.  I’m sure many people would be 10xs more mad than over this, you just can’t win with everyone, if you guys are gonna be mad be mad at Republican ass joe manchin

This though.

That's why we voted for Biden over any of the other Democratic nominees. The guy will do what it takes to get SOMETHING done rather than sitting up in the White House with a rigid stance and going "welp we tried ¯\_(ツ)_/¯". He's shown it in his entire career as a politician. He's a deal maker.

He's working with a near even split in both chambers of congress. A single defection in the Dem vote trashes an entire bill in the senate.

Y'all really thought he could just win the election and wave a magic wand and deliver 100% on everything he promised to fight for when he's going to have to give a little to get a little.

My main issue is that it's based off of outdated earnings.

... the problem comes when you consider that people who made that in 2019 may very well be unemployed now.

You can use your 2020 taxes...so if you were unemployed (or partially unemployed last year) that will count for these benefits.

Also, children will be eligible for a 1,400 stimulus check and a tax credit!

Really? :gum: last time I looked at the discussion around the next relief checks was when they were debating on lowering the income to $50k so I guess I'm not all the way up to date

I really don't get all this hate about the 2000 vs 600+1400 checks...maybe you'd prefer to keep your 600+Trump?

Also, why is no one praising him for standing his ground on weekly 400$ instead of 300$? All I see is people complaining that he's not feeding the rich without criteria...

People just seem to complain over and over about unrealistic expectations that they had about Biden. You're still living in the US, did you expect miracles? Did you expect him to break the system overnight? A system that has so many technicalities and bureaucracy in place to make sure the President doesn't actually have that much power in changing it? A system that was so carefully designed over centuries to keep the rich rich and the poor making money for the rich? A system that feeds on the fear of socialism and communism, in order to keep the money in the top of the pyramid...capitalism literally means that the focus is on "the head", meaning the rich corporations and CEOs behind them.

Be realistic, make it make sense...

Sure, it could've been better, as it always can.

Sure, they might be basing it on outdated earnings but there is a solution, which is filing your 2020 earnings...

Sure, there's people living in high-cost places who might not be "rich" with these excluded earnings, but they're far from being in need. It would be nice but not "needed", and maybe they can apply some kind of exception to these places? I'm sure there's lots of particular situations where these conditions are not as straight forward, and as such they have exceptions in place to accommodate these differences to the common citizen.

All I see is news about the general eligibility, no particular details on the bill anywhere... same thing with news everywhere with what someone else says Biden or Harris will or will not do, and never with what they themselves say they will do or actually do. All just media speculation and sensationalism. The campaign to re-elect Trump (or someone similar) has started even before he left the Office, and y'all seem to be eating it up...again :bear:

Yes! You can use your 2020 filing!

The tax credit will help working families greatly! The House-passed bill would temporarily expand the child tax credit for 2021. First, the plan would allow 17-year-old children to qualify. Second, it would increase the credit to $3,000 per child ($3,600 per child under age 6) for many families. Third, it would remove the $2,500 earnings floor. Fourth, it would make the credit fully refundable. And fifth, it would allow half of the credit to be paid in advance by having the IRS send periodic payments to families from July 2021 to December 2021.

The National Bureau of Economic Research report last year estimated that most children living in the bottom 10% of incomes were "completely ineligible" for a tax credit and that the bottom 30% could receive only a partial credit.

The left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimated Democrats' changes would lift 9.9 million children above or closer to the poverty line. Many of those would be Black, Latino or Asian American children whose families did not qualify because their household incomes are too low to qualify for the tax credit.

Why must Biden be praised for the bare minimum? It’s good but it isn’t much. You’re reading like you have 0% idea about the inner workings of the bill.... He’s about to deliver less checks than Trump and you the site to jump up and be happy? There’s a House to lose to GQP psychos in 2022. Who is talking about breaking rules? Overruling the Senate Parliamentarian isn’t even breaking a rule. It’s a part of the process and previous VPs have done it before. If Trump’s rule breaking damage actually mattered to you, you’d be advocating for Dems to break the rules back to fix his mess.

Make it make sense how you think a system designed by humans cant be broken apart by humans. Feudalism is literally dead... big things are possible. Don’t rain down on people who barely even want to leave capitalism and step leap towards the left.

What actually decides the priority of what gets done, are priority polls based on voter feedback. Yeah it kinda sucks they’re more self interested than not, but it’s worth listening especially since both can be done at the same time.

Your news sources are mediocre tbh. That’s not shade on you, it’s just time to find other sources that are less drama based.

The campaign to re-elect Trump began when Biden started caving to conservative Dems (which no, do not make the Dem Party more attractive to Republicans)

Let’s not call the bare minimum, “miracles” and let’s start worrying about why Biden is breaking campaign promises left and right...

He’s letting ICE bully him and treating the meagre advice of the senate parliamentarian like she’s the God over the VP, as if previous VPs haven’t ruled over her before. The only something he did was waste political capital on Neera Tanden. He’s literally sitting up the the white house rn with the rigid stance of “idc about the $15mw” going “welp we tried.” The SP’s advice is as strong as your neighbors advice I promise MSM has lied to you about her relevance. The only person who thinks he can wave a wand, and cant play hardball, is Biden.

Let’s not call the bare minimum, “miracles” and let’s start worrying about why Biden is breaking campaign promises left and right...

I didn't say it can't be broken apart, I said it doesn't happen overnight.

Same thing with the 15$ raise that everyone wants instantly, right now, when it's not realistic to double the minimum wage in less than the 3 years span he announced. Most countries raise their minimum wage by 3-5% each couple of years.

In politics, especially with how the US system is organized, there's way too many variables to consider besides just trying to ram your different ideas into execution. Even if they go through, they'll instantly be undone once the new government appears. Things have to be eased into.

If Biden goes against everyone in the democratic party "for the greater good", they will turn against him, making him lose support from his own party, which is only gonna make him have a harder time with passing anything. Democrats will stop backing him, and the Republicans obviously will continue to not support him.

What good will it do for him to go against all republicans and most democrats to pass a bill that wouldn't pass anyway?

He could try and fail, sure. But the more he does it, the more people will stop believing in his ability to get anything done. And the more people have this perception of him, the less likely it will be that he can actually pass anything, in a downward spiral of trust and support. Every move has a consequence.

I'm not saying that people should be praising him for the bare minimum. I'm saying that it's been only a month, and people expect miracles. I'm saying people need to be more patient. Mentalities don't change overnight, and a mentality change is what at least half of Americans need. Instead of jumping to the hate bandwagon, wait to see the real consequences. If things are still bad in a year, then start worrying about it, and make your dissatisfaction known by voting. Spreading hate to Biden this soon will only work just like any other fake news, or biased media articles, creating distrust in people's heads and we all know distrust leads to the republicans being elected again.

It's actually interesting because most developed countries nowadays elect the candidate that they think will bring the most change for good or for bad (what's good far-right Europe?), but the US seems to be more interested in putting people in power that will keep the status-quo as much as possible, holding on to an outdated untouchable constitution. And this is what's most difficult about him going against the grain. I'm not saying he's THAT interested in changing things, but neither are most Americans apparently.

Nobody said it’s going to happen overnight. You cant just walk into progressive spaces one day, ignore the history and fight that’s been going on for years, and say everyone is being unreasonable. Plus Biden’s plan calls for a raise the wage over 4 years. Not overnight either. That’s the plan that Manchin is so afraid of 🙄

Your framing what progressives are fighting for only as asking for too much too fast is classic right-wing framing. The bill is completely reasonable and very popular, but monied corruption is stopping the progress.

The only way he’s going against Dems and Republicans is abandoning the $15 wage increase most of of America supports.

He’s already losing his spiral of trust as we speak. He’s broken the campaign promise of not deporting anyone within his first 100 days, he’s bombed Syria for no good reason, he’s letting the wage increase tank, and now he’s not about to complete $2000 checks for 12 million people. All self inflicted wounds by centrist/conservatives Dems.

All in one month. It’s not a miracle to overrule the senate parliamentarian like previous VPs have before, or to not bomb Syria. It’s common decency. If those things seems miraculous to you... no words. Plus everyone is totally funny for thinking Joe Manchin and Kysten Sinema are actually willing to blow up Biden’s bill. They don’t have the balls. Its all theatre. Even their own states are against them on this but they’re too rich to care

If things are bad in a year, the house is a certain loss. That’s what the first 100 days mean. After that, it’s campaign season. Almost halfway over and it’s been a mess.

Most Americans are tired of corruption. That’s why Trump’s outsider status and drain the swamp messaging was so powerful.

I thought they said he just wouldn't include it in the covid relief measures, it shouldn't affect the support for 15$ in general?

About the bombing, there's no excuse, as there's no excuse for the US to constantly export war for the past decades. They just can't keep it to themselves as long as there's some money to be made anywhere else. It's very annoying to EVERYONE in the world to always be thinking that at any time these dumb f*cks can screw everyone with a third world war in the nuclear era for no good reason. From the news, it seems like Biden was actually the one proposing a less aggressive approach, but obviously not pacific enough, as the answer should always be no violence, no matter what.

And you're right, these wounds are self-inflicted by conservative democrats, but you're just validating my point. Biden doesn't have much power when even his own party doesn't support the changes people are expecting him to make. There's a reason this post is about a deal, and not about a single person's decision. He's negotiating with both sides, trying to meet them halfway. For many people this is not enough, for some it is too much, but you shouldn't put the whole blame in his name, just like you shouldn't put it on Trump alone.

Sure, most Americans are tired of the idea of corruption but the most privileged aren't willing to let go of the advantages it brings them in order to bring the less privileged to their level. That's why they elected the most corrupt guy they could find on TV that they knew would keep the less privileged in their place outside the perfect American white picket fenced bubble. And that's why there's so much opposition to Biden (or anyone that would be in his position) changing things, even within his own party.

Spoiler

Also, it's funny that you're calling me, an all-the-way leftist guy in Portugal, out for right-wing framing. I couldn't even sleep the night after the presidential elections in January had a far-right candidate with 13% of votes. :messga:

This just shows how out of touch they are. I understand why there are limits but if you think about an individual making $80,000 in the US....they likely have that amount in student loan debt.  And since we aren't getting that relief, at least help them in another way. I don't know I'm torn on it.

I’m so confused what you’re mad about.

First you say the Biden is delivering less checks than Trump. What a bizarre metric? Lmao who cares about giving checks to the rich? Biden’s overall stimulus package is way bigger than Trumps so really who cares how many checks are going out the door?

Also, overriding the parliamentarian TO DO WHAT? The bring a bill to a vote that will fail anyways?

Y’all are so lazy in your criticism
