UK holiday resort Pontins bans customers by surname, deems “undesirable”

So a local holiday resort in the UK sent a communication to their staff informing them to reject people’s booking requests based on their surname, because they might be Irish travellers

They deemed them undesirable guests

This document was leaked from their internal communication system 

Despite the fact it’s unfair to discriminate against all travellers in this way; I know lots of people with these surnames who aren’t travellers (or Irish) and I think it’s really hurtful to tar these people with this awful stereotype

I visited Pontins when I was a kid and it’s a fun, affordable place for low income families to have a holiday - but I’d never go there again knowing this is how they treat people

I wonder if Niall Horan will have anything to say, being Irish and making the list! 

Other celebs who aren’t welcome include Susan Boyle, Billie Eilish (O’Connell) and Vince McMahon

I say 'acceptable' to mean that the majority of countries (when polled by the EU) stated that it was either acceptable or justifiable to hold anti-traveller views.

I obviously don't support it.

EDIT: @Miss Dolly will be happy to hear Scotland was an outlier in the survey, with just under 40% of participants saying that anti-traveller views were acceptable. England was a few % higher, just over 40%

Irish travellers are small communities of Irish people who stereotypically have no fixed home and set up mobile homes/caravans in different towns

yes sorry, i didn't intent to imply that you support it, it was more like shock that the UK find that "acceptable".

Oh yes, i heard the urban legends about the irish pubs right? that they drink a lot and then they fight? and they the next day they are super happy again

still, that doesn't excuse the resort to ban them solely on their surnames, they should ban only individuals with problematic behaviour regardless of their origins.

I live in a town with plenty of beautiful land around and unfrotunately travellers will arrive every few years, trash the place, steal from locals and cause fights. Police usually won't touch travellers either as it's too much hassle and risk.

But to discriminate everyone with those names as a traveller is disgraceful.

Scotland is more tolerable but this practise is absolutely disgusting.

I would have thought pontins didn’t mind who stayed !

have you ever been ,I used to go a lot about 20 years ago wasn’t to bad .

Went a couple of years ago OMG it’s cleaner on the streets( I’m not posh) but it’s a sh*t hole !
