My country has 50k people vaccinated out of like 6 millions, we still get very high cases and deaths every single day, and still they're reopening everything. They literally opened malls and ski resorts yesterday and schools reopen next week. At this point i feel like we're on our 10th wave and there's really no solution. Variants are probably roaming freely without anyone knowing about them lmao.

Where are you from?

Have you checked the Charts Thread today?!

My grandma died in January and both my parents were in Mexico taking care of her because she has cancer and dementia. My parents got it as well from a cousin who visited my grandmas (they think he's the one who infected the whole house). My mom got very sick and almost didn't make it, she and my dad also got pneumonia but my dad didn't get as sick as my mom. The doctors said my mom's virus was a lot stronger than everyone else's in the house who got it. They still test positive and cannot return home. It honestly feels terrible being away from them and not being able to do anything. I couldn't attend my grandmas funeral because my oldest sister didn't wanna risk any of us getting it too. She did fly out there to take care of my parents a bit and pick out a coffin and expenses and luckily didn't get sick. This stuff is legit scary and people don't care.

I am scared for my mom during this time since she has cancer and a bunch of breathing and health problems. This news sucks to hear

Same here, my mom has a lot of existing lung problems that could go south very quickly if she caught COVID.

We're doomed.

Really scared for my mom who has cancer who just got the Pfizer vaccine. :( If the mutations cause all the vaccines to be ineffective then idk what'll happen.

The Pfizer vax is effective against the UK variant

How long has it been since they last showed symptoms? If they caught it in January you can test negative for weeks after no longer being viral/ infectious and they usually let people return to life if they haven’t had symptoms in 10 days

More usless fear tactics from the CDC. So long as people continue following the established safety protocols, everything will be fine. We have to start moving on from the fiasco of 2020.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

But maybe not for long, countries just need to get going with their inoculation program, I am looking at you NZ and EU!

Part of me wishes that Canada would just invoke the Emergencies Act for 1 month and shut down almost everything that doesn't offer curbside pickup.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

In my country, restrictions were introduced in the second wave, in early November, and the number of cases fell in early January. The restrictions remained unchanged and people complied with them.

However, the British variant has now resulted more and severe patients in the last two weeks than the previous wave and its peak is not yet visible. The danger is real if you are not vaccinated.

Even if you're not religious, I think this is a good time to pray. It's getting more and more difficult to remain hopeful with each passing day.

I'm honestly scared we're gonna be trapped in this nightmare for years :bradley:

We just reopened theatres and other stores in Quebec, people are gonna riot if we go into full lockdown again. I know it's for the greater good but it's Spring Break right now here and I just know we're gonna see a huge rise in case numbers in two weeks.

We will be ok. We have such good vaccines that even with lost effectiveness due to variants, they will still likely be more protective than the normal flu vaccine. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine had a trial in South Africa and was still very effective + prevented hospitalization and death 100%, booster shots are in trials and will easily be approved.

People definitely need to be careful until everyone gets their vaccines, but this language could be better imo. I know the CDC is just stating the facts, but their approach and way of communicating recommendations to the GP is so out of touch with what they can tolerate. Any ordinary person who reads this will give up, lose hope and stop caring, people are also becoming psychologically scarred due to isolation and/or economic troubles that I definitely think they should be extra careful with their communication if they want to make a positive change.

EDIT: To clarify, the language which I think is wrong is the emphasis on new variants. Variant or not, people should still be careful. If all of a sudden, people are told to be careful again for a new reason, people stop caring.
