I guess we're missing each other's point then.

My point is that commodifying these kinds of things lead to tragic outcomes, such as a walker being shot 4 times just for the money a French bulldog could "produce". It's disgusting.

In America, people get shot and left for dead for MUCH less than a dog, every day. Sadly.

No kidding. A few months ago a guy was shot in the head and killed outside my work in broad daylight. He was never caught. The victim's mom is one of my regular customers and they still don't know who did it or why :/

Y’all, people have been killing for money or other materialistic crap forever. Not the right thread for that conversation.

In a less serious tone for a second, imagine thinking you're going to go steal some classy dogs and get a paycheck only to learn that you stole Lady Gaga's dogs :rip:

The woman who has millions of obsessed fans. The woman who has the president on speed dial. Like...they're f*cked, in all honesty :laughga:

I just hope they're able to get the puppies back. I couldn't imagine having something happen to my baby. So scary.

The fact people have been doing this 'forever' is not a reason to ignore the current factors that led to this. And money may be materialistic, but the lives of two dogs and a person is not.

Horrible people will always find an excuse to make a quick buck. Trying to tie this to capitalism comes off as really tone deaf. Just drop it. Time and place, man.

I will say this hoping I don't come across as obnoxious and can choose my words correctly, but without capitalism, this wouldn't have happened. It's sad when we commodify every aspect of life and put a monetary value to it. If autonomous lives, like the lives of French bulldogs, wasn't commodified, those despicable people wouldn't have a reason to commit such atrocious act, and dogs wouldn't have a reason to be stolen to be sold afterwards. These small things should also serve as a wake up call. Organize and spread the word. That's the only way to truly prevent things like this from happening again and again, and being covered as if it were a consequence of a random sick person wanting money, instead of also being a direct consequence of the way we see value itself.

Well, people in communist countries kill for food and money too, so I wouldn't say it is a problem of capitalism itself.

Kindness rules all.

Idk if this has been mentioned already but do we know if Gaga's dogs are "chipped"? It's not uncommon for people to have vets put tracking chips in their dogs and it wouldn't surprise me if Gaga had that done. Every dog that my family has owned, a vet has offered to put a chip in them but we never do because its expensive, but surely that wouldn't be an issue for Gaga

This is my exact thoughts but another user said the chip isn’t a GPS type of thing to find them, it just has their home address for a vet to scan if they’re lost for instance.

I think the chips don't track the dogs in real time, they just hold information so if they are found they can be scanned for the owners details.

Dog chips don’t use GPS technology. They have the owners info that vets and shelters can access to contact the owners.

First of all, they arguably do it in a much smaller scale. Second of all, you can argue against the fact those countries are 'communist' very easily. Third of all, that doesn't make it any less bad :smh: We should strive to see the bigger picture and detect and solve the systemic problems that lead to these tragic outcomes, not being distracted by arguments such as "wellll, in China they do it too so we're good" like ???
