Biden Gives ICE different (restrictive) guidelines, ACLU Comes For Him

No politician is perfect. Saints who keep promises don't become politicians. I still think he is the lesser evil compared to Trump and I am still happy with Biden. Obama was no saint either but Biden is still light years ahead of a second Trump term.

This is what I read: 

"Under the memo, ICE is directed to focus on three tiers of “enforcement and removal” (deportation) priorities: (1) undocumented immigrants who are deemed to be or who are suspected of being a national security threat; (2) undocumented immigrants who entered or attempted to enter the country “on or after November 1, 2020;” and (3) undocumented immigrants convicted of certain felony and gang-related offenses."

And 

"There are also a few key differences between Biden’s enforcement priorities and those under Obama. Whereas Biden’s crime-focused deportation guidance (priority number three) calls for the deportation of those with “aggravated felonies” (a broad suite of federal crimes in the context of non-U.S. citizens), Obama called for the deportation of people with a “significant misdemeanor” as the baseline."

 

This is significantly much better than Trump letting ICE deport undocumented people carte blanche. I understand that it's a promise broken of the "no deportations" in the first 100 days that he pledged, but a Democrat mayor in a border town in Texas was literally begging the Biden administration to do something about releasing recent undocumented immigrants into their towns to await their court date because of the recent surge in border apprehensions in the past weeks + the risk of covid spread in the facilities that they were housing them was high PLUS the winter storm that left millions of Texans without power for days... he had no choice but to do something. It really upsets me that only right wing sites are covering recent immigration issues, while left leaning one just focus on the "broken promises" headlines and run with it without providing the contexts behind these difficult decisions. 

In addition a Federal Judge in TX blocked Bidens no deportation in the 1st 100 days memo and the TX AG threatened to sue, or is currently suing the Biden administration over this:

Judge Drew Tipton said in an order dated Monday the extension was necessary for “the record to be more fully developed” in the case brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who challenged Biden’s 100-day pause on deportations.

Tipton originally issued a 14-day suspension of Biden’s moratorium on Jan. 26. The pause in deportations was part of Biden’s attempted day one overhaul of several of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. But Paxton quickly filed a lawsuit in response to Biden’s moratorium..."

Tldr: immigration policy is incredibly complex and multi-faceted. No matter what, there will always be some form of immigration enforcement. That being said, the Biden administration will soon introduce an immigration bill in the coming days from what I've read and seen.
