If there was no need to protest, no one would be looting stores right now. funny how no one considers peaceful protest and never will, cause most of them just wants to burn and steal things i bet you too considering how desperately you're trying to paint every looter as hero

If there was no need to protest, no one would be looting stores right now. There was literally a person on GGD whose immigrant uncle lost their restaurant which was their entire livelyhood to a trashing due to protests in the US U can go and imagine that violence and looting affects no one because they are going to be so carefully targeted only to the most resilient businesses and no one will suffer In reality and angry mob in a tense moment doesnt have that kind of careful reasoning or tact not to be that selective. Not to mention that in the midst of any who just wanna get a message across many will also just take advantage to steal stuff and those ppl certainly dont care who they hurt U can be mad at the system but going and looting businesses is not exclusively directing it only at the rich so its a misplaced way to target them And even if every individual only targeted big names. Again many of them are franchises as i said which means u dont just hurt the big corp name u also hurt the individual owner who often is not that rich and most people dont know which businesses are franchise and which are not. I certainly dont keep a general list in my head For example i know someone who owns a tim hortons (biggest coffee and donut chain here in Canada) and he is not rich. At best he is a bit above average. Profit margins are tight so while its a lot of money in total at corporate level, its not so much so for 1 individual location. Most ppl will just associate the chain with big success tho so if ppl pulled some stunt like that here too they might assume of they looted or trashed the tim hortons no one would be greatly affected. No so! U immagining this hurts no one but the rich so theres no problem seems like a fantasy perfect scenario in ur mind. In reality things dont work like that
dit 46,738
tbh i will admit that Spain does have a bit of a double standard in regards to freedom of speech. This one is not a good example BUT there have been a plethora of times many seperatist politicians or activists in Catalonia and other regions get jailed or threatened by officials for their views. This guy is a bit different because he has made very bad comments but yeah just made me think of the issue at large. I dont think Spain is at Western Europe's level of freedom and democracy yet...actually at times I think its slipping backwards in some regards which is sad to watch... Juanlittlem 49,392
The thing is, there's a difference between protesters and rioters. There's lot of people protesting peacefully, but since the government doesnt like what they're protesting about they sent the police which ends in police brutality (last night they sent more than 14th trucks filled with cops to capture protesters on ONE street (video)) There's always gonna be rioters when there's a protest, but that doesnt make their protest less valid, same as what happened with BLM. Andreu 37,216
So some of yall are more concerned about shops getting looted than protestors having to go to the hospital, people losing their eyes, our justice system being more unfair every single day? Ofc GGD loves a good sensationalist discussion without trying to understand the reasons behind things wbk

In reality things dont work like that That immigrant uncle and the tim hortons owner would do it great on a testimony tv show but you are missing the big picture here. Spanish society has less and less freedom every year and people are starting to feel frustrated and angry. And when the people peacefully protest, the police sends dozens of trucks to start hitting indiscriminately (check the video above, it's beyond surreal, they start hitting the people that are leaving). I will never justify the looting but what do you expect? It's about losing our freedom as a society what we are talking about, if looting a shop distracts you from the source of the problem, we have an issue here

I will never justify the looting but what do you expect? It's about losing our freedom as a society what we are talking about, if looting a shop distracts you from the source of the problem, we have an issue here Well the other user i was replying to gave the whole situation an entirely different context (im hearing like 3 different versions in this thread already of what the protests are for) and made it about the poor vs rich and on top of that said the shops are going to be fine cuz they are rich so im saying he clearly doesnt understand how these things work if ur mind oversimplifies something that narrowly as just shop = rich so u can loot them no problem and they will be fine. Thats a big oversimplification of the results of these things. But assuming its about what ur saying i still cant justify this nor do i get it. At least target government buildings or something relevant to government. Dont attack random businesses like what does the owner and employees your hurting that have have to do with your message? Lastly im gonna explain why it "distracts me". Theres a lot of progressive tendencies to justify very questionable things these days in my opinion is very flawed reasoning and its justified on the grounds of that the core idea behind it is just and i find it such a slipery slope to increasingly justify anything (thats literally how terrorists think only more extreme) Progressives are the new way of thinking and often a prelude or trend setters to how many more ppl will think or how attititudes will shift... If theres stuff i find extremely worrying abiut the attitudes or ways of thinking... of course in my mind im gonna be just as distracted by that as i might be for what ever issue its being used to solve. These actions are a precedence for future actions and when they are justified they can get normalized. So its perfectly valid for someone like me who doesnt agree with these methods to be worried about it and to not just think its no big deal U can disagree. But thats my reasoning on why its a valid "distraction"
