Prince Charles visits Prince Phillip in the hospital despite lockdown

Better Day

My aunt died in December. Her family was allowed in to say goodbye.

My mother is dealing with the long effects of covid and 2 family members at a time were allowed in under compassionate grounds a few weeks ago when things got very scary. She's been stable but very weak ever since but no visits since until my dad was allowed to visit again the other day.

I don't know what his exact condition is, but at 99 recovery is very optimistic under any standards. I think a family visit after 5 days in hospital is not unreasonable or taking advantage of their status.

You don't want to be part of the UK why should you have a say on whether we keep the Monarch of the UK.

Focus on your divisive independance fight instead and don't complain about people visiting sick relatives on Gagadaily. This aint the place.

As others have pointed out, the good they do for charities, the commonwealth, inspiring generations, tourism etc far outweighs their cost. If in the future this isn't the case then there will be a case for removing the monarchy. Until then, live your life, don't dictact how others should live, Thanks

The Queen is still the Queen of Scotland, Elizabeth I. Divisive independence referendum, get off. They are a mandate for one.

Them being unaccountable is enough to put me off them.

The royal family literally generates over 1 billion a year for us. If we didn’t have a royal family, we’d lose a lot of revenue.

The “power” is just for show, she wouldn’t fire any PM or dismantle government. Yes she does have that power but no she’ll never use it. It’s all just part of legacy I guess? Hence the new PM drives to the palace and “asks” her to form a government. It’s not that deep tbh just theatrics.

Phillip is turning 100 years old in a matter of months and he’s been ill before. I think it’s clear he is dying and Charles was literally visiting his dying father. It’s up to the discretion of the care home or hospital. My nan died two weeks ago and my mum and dad where aloud to visit her during the final hours with the permission of the care home as she was dying. I wasn’t aloud to go see her but my parents were. He did nothing wrong so I don’t know why there’s so much fuss around it?

What I don’t understand is the hate around the royal family. Now a days they are just figure heads for us. This notion they will have all this power is ridiculous. They don’t impact our lives as much as the government does and the only time you hear about them is on social media, newspapers and now Netflix.

That revenue would still be there if the royals were dumped into a council house. People would be able to visit the palaces. Why should I treat the royals any different than the average person in the street, because they came out the right vagina, it’s not right. I never elected them, they are unaccountable to me. It’s not democratic to have a woman be treated better than me.
