Brings back memories of when I visited my uncle near Hamburg, NY as a kid during a particularly cold winter.  Lake Erie was frozen over and I got the idea to walk to the Canadian shore, about 10 miles across the lake.  I walked way past all the ice fishermen with their cars and windbreaks and made it about half way across when I heard the ice creaking and saw cracks in the ice.  I became afraid and gave up my quest and turned around.  This pic shows the ice fishermen on Lake Erie in 1959, which may have been the same year I was there.
