Texas governor blames Green New Deal for energy crisis

Millions of Texans didn’t have power Tuesday night, and the arctic blast was still pummeling the state. Many were looking for answers on why they were stuck in the cold and when their heat would return. And Gov. Greg Abbott was being interviewed on Fox News, decrying the Green New Deal — a massive framework of climate change policies that don’t exist in Texas.

Abbott said in an interview with Sean Hannity in the middle of a crisis that “the Green New Deal would be a deadly deal for the United States of America.” Ignoring that experts and officials agreed that a disruption in energy powered by fossil fuels was the biggest culprit behind Texas' outages, Abbott added that losses in wind and solar energy “thrust Texas into a situation where it was lacking power in a statewide basis.”

Natural gas and coal make up almost 90% of our lost power generation in the state. The fact that our power generators froze up in the first place is a failure of him and his party that decided to isolate the state's power grid so they can mindlessly slash regulations the rest of the country follows, including the ones that require energy companies to weatherize their energy sources.

The state's own energy commission recognized that wind was one of the least affected sources of power in this storm and solar is outperforming expectations, and he himself told this reporters and his constituents on social media. But instead of recognizing the issues and owning up to his and his party's shortcomings, he instead is deciding to go onto far right media and tries to shift all blame onto Texas' only reliable sources of power it currently has because him and all the other major republican politicians in this state are are individually funded in the millions by the natural gas industry that tries to subvert all regulations and prioritize profits over safety and reliability. He is also allowing power companies to willingly shut off their power generators so they dont have to endure the cost of spiked gas prices because their gas lines stopped running because they didnt bother to weatherize them like they would be required to anywhere else in the country.

Texas' power generation today is actually down from the 2 days prior, meanwhile more freezing rain and snow from another winter storm is predicted to hit the state tomorrow (right now its a 60% chance here in San Antonio).

Sometimes I try to consider the other side, and I certainly know Democrats are lost and corrupt in their own ways, but the depths of depravity elected Republicans exhibit. It's not in any sense a difference of opinion. They are constantly waging a war on reality.

Honestly the most dumbfounding thing a republican has said since Trump... The GND isn’t even implemented yet.
