we were out 12 hours monday, got back for about 6, then were oiut for 30, and just got it back.  who knows how long but at least we can reheat the house.   barely any water flow but enough to fill a tub to flush toilets with.  at least we have a pantry stocked with hurricane supplies like canned soups and stuff.

I didn't realise how bad the situation was in Texas... it must be difficult to try deal with weather that you aren't used to. Texas is usually warm and has hot climates, it's not used to freezing temperatures!

I live in Scotland so we are used to dealing with all sorts of weather. Last week we had pretty heavy snow across much of the country. It got to around 20cm deep where I was, and I don’t live on a hill. I can't imagine being climatised to living in 20°C+ heat for most of the year, to then living with temperatures below freezing. We have snow ploughs, gritters, and are used to being able to handle winter weather. But for people living in Texas without all of that, including water and electricity supplies... my heart really goes out to you all.

Good news though. By the end of the week it looks like it will start to get warmer, and will gradually go back up to what you'd expect. Though, due to all the snow and ice flooding could very well be possible. Hang on guys, it will all get better!

But you guys always have heat indoors, right? I went out tonight to find food and it honestly wasn’t terrible, so I think I could deal with the cold temperature if we had electricity indoors.

But yeah I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend!

All the snow melted in San Antonio yesterday and it’s snow storming again when much of the state still don’t have power :neyde: it’s a f*cking blizzard outside right now. Still have power but I don’t expect it to last

It never fully melted in Austin and I expected it too today but now it’s snowing again up here too. It’s pretty light snow up here at least. Friday had better come through for us.

There are people in Austin who haven’t had power since Sunday or longer. They aren’t rolling power here, it’s literally just on or off. I got my power back yesterday (early morning), and I have had it since. It’s really not making sense anymore that they aren’t rolling the power. Although, apparently a lot of transformers have been exploding when turned on so it might actually be structural at this point, which is even worse.

Water pipes bursting led to them cutting water off everywhere, and some people haven’t had water since Sunday or longer either. A huge number of people have resorted to snow for drinking and hygiene purposes.

Even Hospitals here lost power and water. Employees and patients have to relief themselves in plastic bags. It’s truly shocking. They were transferring the sickest patients but I don’t know to where cause so many hospitals were having the same issues.

Yeah, it’s been snowing pretty hard, it’s already at least an inch where I live in San Antonio and they’re calling for it to keep on snowing through the evening. They were rolling power for half the first day it snowed here but then they stopped and just let the power come on every 3 hours for 2 minutes, we went close to 15 hours without it and since it’s been about 8 hours off, 3-4 hours on. Thankfully i haven’t had any frozen/burst pipes (been dripping my faucets since a day before the storm) but I know friends in the same apartments as mine that do have the issue and I’ve seen the horrors online when large apartment building pipes burst :selena:

Meanwhile, the area of San Antonio I live less than a quarter mile from, which happens to be the richest zip code in the city (with no essential services located in it) is the only zip code to not have an outage in San Antonio this entire f*cking time (even when all the zip codes around it are completely in a blackout) while the primates in the San Antonio Zoo and animal sanctuary have died without heat.

Speaking about water, my husband haven't shower for 3 days or so because there are no hot water in his hotel :bradley:

But thankfully there is enough for drinking. :diane:

I can't imagine locals who tried to take refuge to hotels thinking they get electricity etc only to find they are also affected and it is just the same across the state. :bradley:
