PhantomOfTheDance 13,795
I'm ****ing boiling. I'm so ****ing pissed off. Watched it with a group of friends and there was no disclaimer and they didn't remove the TWO restraint scenes. Seems like they killed off the other autistic character and the story was pathetic. It was all about some definition of love that's silly and doesn't make sense. I didn't gain anything out of this except negativity and disappointment and I don't think I can support Sia anymore. The script was dead awful and Kate Hudson's character makes a racist joke towards Leslie Odom Jr's character, saying she "doesn't mind aids" (he plays an African character). I'm thoroughly disgusted, distraught, and disappointed. I found it hard to stomach the restraint scenes and was taken by absolute shock because I thought she removed the scenes but NOTHING was done. It isn't about the autistic character, it's about Kate Hudson's character. Don't watch this film. It. Is. Awful. The soundtrack is awful as well. Don't waste your time. Rat Boy 43,594
I work with people on the spectrum. The trailer alone contained so many problematic things. It was so obvious that Sia had not done any research and that this movie was not made for people with autism. "****ing rat" - @Dynamite

Sia's part in the movie didn't even make sense, none of it made sense. it was just . . . idk, i'd rather watch the time jumps in Bohemian Rhapsody than this. Anderson123 38,545
I don't think I'm going to watch this in theaters because of COVID and how long it's taking movies to show here so probably just going to watch it online if I find it. I'm honestly curious to see why it got slammed by critics but still managed to get Golden Globes nominations, are the story and acting even good? I just listened to the soundtrack and is not that bad, sounds like a generic This Is Acting Part 2, for those who liked it.
RichAssPiss 4,934
It's a terrible movie. I have no idea what she was thinking. I hope she learned something from the experience.

CAPRISONGS 1,631
i just watched the first 5 mins of it on those illegal websites and had to turn it off... never in my life has a movie made me so angry and frustrated like this one has. from the get go its blatantly mocking autism and people on the spectrum. the only half decent thing i can comment on is that some of the songs on the soundtrack are ok. apart from that. horrific. Okay..... so I actually just watched the whole movie online - except for about 5 minutes in the middle because it honestly got boring during the “romantic” scenes and I fell asleep. Now, I understand how people find the whole “autistic acting” offensive or appalling, but...... why do people put so much pressure on Maddie’s performance as if it’s supposed to represent the ENTIRE autism community? It’s obviously not. And even though Sia could’ve casted an actual person with autism as Music, she wanted Maddie to play this role because she’s been involved in almost all of her projects as a dancer and the film also has MANY musical numbers which Maddie plays a major DANCE role in (I believe these musical numbers are supposed to represent Music’s “mind” and how she sees things in her head, and later Kate’s character starts to express her emotions throughout these numbers as well...... I might be off with my interpretation but that’s pretty much the basis of it). Even though this was a controversial decision, I honestly understand her artistic vision and why she chose to execute it like this. But excluding and dismissing the autism community was definitely not a good look for her. Anyway, I actually really liked the musical numbers, and I loved how they transitioned so seamlessly between the scenes of the film. They were VERY well done, very colorful and visually nice. Some of the songs were good, while others...... were just okay. To be honest, what really bothered me was the pacing. There were a few moments in the film that felt unnecessary or irrelevant (especially the scenes with the boxer kid with the abusive father...). But anyway, I suppose Kate Hudson did great acting-wise (I mean, I would imagine so, since she’s nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in this), but I didn’t really feel connected to or have sympathy for her character Zu in particular. In fact, now that I think about it, Zu’s main problem in the plot didn’t even get resolved on-screen and she didn’t even seem to properly redeem herself......aside from not giving up on Music, since, she almost did. I mean, there’s a cliché happy ending (and a really happy moment right before the final number! ), so at least it doesn’t end on a dark or cynical note. Although, for a major film, the writing seemed way too amateur-ish. I give it a 5.5/10. Overall it wasn’t that bad, but definitely wasn’t great. If it wasn’t a musical, it would’ve been a 3/10. dOnT sAd ReAcT mE 2 bE sHaDy i WiLL RePoRt U!!1!

Guest
Didnt watch it but if it's true frm u guys' review, i dont like it when people tackle a topic about a mental condition/illness without knowing about it or doing enough research, it's very very disrespectful and offensive, and can actually do more harm than good. Especially misunderstood topics like autism, OCD, bipolar disorder etc....
