They're not doing anything :cryga: Yesterday practically everyone using the hashtag on Twitter was asking Disney to fire her and now they are complaining :ladyhaha: This part of the situation is really funny to me

It’s obviously a distasteful hyperbole to compare current socio-political status of American conservatives to Jews during holocaust but it’s not anti semitic... It’s literally irrational to call that anti semitic.

Any rational person would think that she knows and recognizes the genocide Jews have been subjected to by choosing to use that as hyperbole to convey the current low social status of American conservatism.

Ps: Atheist but I am Jewish from my mother’s side for the reference of irrational cancellators who might wanna come after me.

They complain because Disney thanked the Chinese region they used for filming in the credits, where reportedly a lot of Uyghurs are being murdered, but the controversy would be worse if they didn't film it in China, so I don't understand it :air:

Lmao, there is no escaping that with the current climate.

If they film in China, they’re supporting genocide against Uyghurs - if they don’t, they’re appropriating Chinese culture. :vegas:

I don't know if it would be cultural appropiation, but filming it outside of China would simply be much harder logistics wise.

Apparently the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus started trending after Disney announced Gina Carano, an actor appearing in "The Mandalorian", was fired after a status she posted on Instagram equated conservative people to jews during the holocaust. This was ironically preceded by another hashtag calling for Carano to be fired. Now, the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus seems to be mainly about jokes by people that won't cancel their memberships, and from people calling out the "hypocrisy" of Disney for firing Carano but filming Mulan in China :neyde:

Anyways, another day another slay

Edited/redacted since I phrased myself poorly and I wanted to add my view on the matter, since I wandered away from the whole point:

Regarding #Disney is cancelled:

I think the Disney is cancelled thing is regarding the alleged rumors regarding the Starwars "civil war" and the fans reception of her characer Cara in The Mandalorian.

There is alegedly a "civil war" going on in Lucasfilm, between two factions: Kathleen Kennedy's team that is apparently trying to push diversity for diversity sake, not necesarily taking into account good narratives, or George Lucas's vision/continuity with previously established canon and therefore really blemishing his franchize.

Then there is reportedly the Jon Favreau (from the Marvel universe)/ Dave Feloni (from the Star Wars the Clone Wars/The Bad Batch/Rebels tv series) team. They are behind the recent The Mandelorian tv series, trying to fix the damage to the franchize by directing the series into a direction mainstream and oldschool fans would enjoy: a universe that was already diverse: with aliens, strong space princesses/ women ((Padmé, Leia, the jedi Asohkha, Bo Katan, etc) and Lgbt characters (Lando). More diverse character would just fit well within that universe without the need to force it, and if the characters were well written.

Favreau's team does include diversity, but does not use it as the main drive for the stories, it adds to the story, but is not detrimental to it. In the sequel trilogy, diversity is handled poorly: Finn (played by John Boyega) was setup as a main character, but since they had to cater to viewers in China they made his role less prominent in the following installments (look up the movie posters, they downsized Boyega, and cut him short in the Chinese cuts of the movie). if character building is done well, it can add a whole lot of depth to the overall narrative: to the development if the character itself and of other characters. Disney however did not handle character development well when it comes to Starwars: The character of Rey has no buildup, she's a Mary Sue, there is no growth in her character, and knows everything from the start. Cara however is a character that is strong, struggles when she faces obstacles, is a bad ass but still has limits to her strength, and therefore feels more relatable to fans.

And that is also the reason why there is a whole trove of fans, who were discontent with the initial handling of the franchize, who are now mad at Gina being fired. These fans were really starting to flock back to The Mandalorian because of Luke Skywalker, Grogu and the character played by Gina: Cara. Not to go into much detail, fans are "seeing" a whole lot of mismanagment from higher up and see the firing of Gina as an attack on Favreau's attempt to restore the SW brand.

Gina:

In my understanding I read that Gina was told on Twitter that she should add her pronouns on her twitter bio, and Gina refused to do so. And since then she added jokingly? the pronouns: beep/bop/ boop :awkney: to her Twitter bio. Apparently she has a different view on the pronoun thing, one of indifference, I see people are sensitive to it, but I also think people should not pay a joke in ill taste too much attention. However as I understand it correctly .... this recent IG post is apparently her response to the whole media fanfare around it ... :awkney:

This poor analogy, in which she compares having an opinion which isn't left leaning or political correct is being treated similarly to how the Nazi's treated Jews, communists, LGBT people, is very unfortunate, and I guess it’s her reply to the situation of her being called out on twitter for the pronoun thing. I don’t think she has an ill intent against Jews or lgbt people, I just think she doesn’t find the pronoun/labeling thing that important and is quite ignorant of other peoples feelings about the thing. However I do feel fans should not say what she must or mustn’t do.
The way she went about it was far from smart and the analogy is quite a weird one.

I just find it quite extreme to fire her right away and not let her have a moment where she could explain herself or to outright say this is not what I meant with this post. Usually an employer gives an employee a warning before firing someone.

I would rather have some folk let Gina realize that was insenstive with her analogy and tell her why, then have her make a statement that she was insensitive, and let her go on with the role. To cancel her is not the right way to go about it, especially when it comes to someones opinion. Also It's hypocritical from Disney/Lucasfilm, they don't condone opinions that don't align with theirs, but they do agree and even thank the CCP for filming Mulan near the Uighur concentration camps. Talk about double standards really :saladga:

This needs a bit more context, since her comment runs waaayy deeper than it seems.

There is a literal "civil war" going on in Lucasfilm. There is the Kathleen Kennedy faction which is trying to push a feminist (more like femi-nazi) agenda in Starwars, a team that is overtly trying to push diversity for diversity sake, not necesarily taking into account good narratives, or George Lucas's vision/continuity with previously established canon and therefore really blemishing his franchize. The lacklustre sequel trilogy is an example of their misconduct of the franchize (Especially the Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker), with countless loopholes in the narrative.

Then there is the Jon Favreau (from the Marvel universe)/ Dave Feloni (from the Star Wars the Clone Wars/The Bad Batch/Rebels tv series) team. They are behind the recent The Mandelorian tv series, trying to fix the damage to the franchize by directing the series into a direction old school fans would enjoy and George Lucas would approve of. The countless new series that were recently announced were mostly series that are spearheaded by this team (The Book of Boba (Fett), The Rangers of The New Republic, Star Wars: Ashokha, The Bad Batch).

There is only one show (The Acolyte, taking place 50 years before the Phantom Menace) that is being spearheaded by Kathleen Kennedy's team, since the previous Disney CEO Bob Iger didn't trust her team anymore to pull through after the disaster that were the sequel trilogy movies.

Here is the gist, Favreau's team doesn't care for identity politics, and just wants to make good Starwars, a universe that was already diverse: with aliens, strong space princesses (Padmé, Leia) and other women (the jedi Asohkha, Bo Katan, etc) and Lgbt characters. More diverse character would just fit well within that universe without the need to force it, and if the characters were well written. Kathleen Kennedy actively tries to downplay previously established characters as failures and not important (The sequel trilogy actively negates makes Darth Vader/Anakin's sacrifice and redemption at the end of Return of the Jedi by making Luke Skywalker a bitter hermit and Rey the "new" Luke Skywalker, killing the Emperor "again") and making new characters like Rey Palpatine/Skywalker more important than Luke or Anakin Skywalker.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes, and it made Lucasfilm studios into a toxic place to work at.

Now for Gina Corano, she isn't anti semitic, she made this comment where having an opinion which isn't left leaning or political correct is being treated similarly to how the Nazi's treated Jews, communists, LGBT people. This is in direct alignment with a big chunk of Starwars fans who were disatisfied with the treatment of the franchize, the narrative and the character building (or the lact thereoff). These fans (a big majority) where painted as "toxic and non inclusive" by the mainstream media in Hollywood. If there is a previously established canon that fans loved, and Kathleen Kennedy throws that out from the get go, then that is a reason for the fans to voice their complaints.

Kathleen Kennedy is trying to undermine Mandalorian's succes and her team is actively trying to sabotage the series.. Kathy didn't even know about the Luke Skywalker cameo in the finale of Season 2 of The Mandalorian. If she was informed she would have wanted to meddle in and not make it happen. The fact they managed to fire Gina, was solely based on Gina's recenty post. Since there weren't any post like this on her Twitter or IG before. Kathy is quite bitter since she isn't in the helm of Lucasfilm anymore.

The whole context of Gina Carano's posts on Instagram were to expose how the Kathleen Kenndy faction of Lucasfilm treats people who doesn't necesarily agree with the "diversity for diversity sake" policies. And the fact that the Kathleen Kennedy faction fired her, makes this all the more apparent that having a different opinion, having freedom of speech or drawing parallels is not possible anymore, because SJW (Social Justice Warriors) feels attacked by anything that is not alligning with their views. And I find it really worrysome and scary that the media is trying to spin it in favor of Kathleen Kennedy, and destroy Gina for just this comment.

This is dangerous because this literally what Orwell's 1984 warned about: the destruction of free speech and right of having your own opinion.

Anyway folk in the upper echelon of Disney are hypocrits, since they don't condone comments like this, but they do agree and even THANK the Chinese CCP for filming near the Uighur concentration camps..

NNNNNNN, not you making this about the meanie SJWS!!!!111 Gina Carano is a mess for comparing conservatives to Jews during the Holocaust. QAnon and the Republican Party have done way more damage and threats to the USA than anyone else in recent years:

TNT_Graphics_Web-02.jpg

Disney is definitely an evil company, but let's not act like Gina doesn't deserve to be trashed endlessly after her insensitive comments, and making comparisons to 1984 is just rich. And implying diversity and good storylines are mutually exclusive. A MESS.

Honey go back to reddit with all this bullshit. There's no "civil war" in Lucasfilm. Nor Kennedy nor Filoni or Favreu are trying to undermine each others work, these are just fake rumours made up by anti-sjw haters.

I just find it strange how they can fire an employ based on political views. I think i was typing it but didnt resond in last thread. I dont get how that is legal, it has nothing to do with her work place.
