Portuguese here. This is so infuriating because it was so predictable. Idk what they were thinking about almost none christmas restrictions...

@Akiki there must be other factors at play besides restrictions tho cuz if anything restrictions in Portugal have been tougher than say here in Canada most of the year

 

I think location with the new variants, population desity, old population etc were a big factor in this

 

Cuz if it was just a matter of restrictions many other Nations should be way worse than Portugal

True. Age is a problem. We also have lots os people working in the UK and France. People that came to spend the holidays. 

But the main reason is the way people are acting. My city is super small and 1/8 are infected. That's pretty high. People are facing pressure from bosses to work or even hide if they tested positive for covid. It's just sad. 

I know a guy that knew he was positive and still decided to come home. He flew to Portugal from Madeira.

People here in my country take a lot for granted with our amazing healthcare system, no matter how much people rightfully wail about how much it being underfunded.

Oh also a little off topic but Portugals President doesnt really run the Country so if he was a covid denier it wouldnt make a huge difference

 

His main responsibilities are being the military commander, signing stuff and a few other things

 

For general rulling of the Country the Prime Minister is more relevant in Portugal
