Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has agreed to supply 9 million additional doses of its coronavirus vaccine to the European Union during the first quarter.
The company will also begin deliveries one week sooner than scheduled and expand its manufacturing capacity in Europe.

The new target of 40 million doses by the end of March is still only half what AstraZeneca had originally aimed for, triggering a spat between the company and the EU.

Last week AstraZeneca announced they would supply only 31M doses to 27 members of EU due to production problems and officials in Brussels said they feared AstraZeneca was treating the bloc unfairly compared to other customers, such as UK.

The EU is far behind UK and the US in getting its population of 450M vaccinated against the COVID-19. EU governments have administered just 2.3 doses of vaccine per 100 people, far behind the 11.4 per 100 in the UK and 7.8 per 100 in the US[according to Bloomberg data]. The slow rollout has been blamed on a range of national problems,  delayed authorization of the vaccines compared to elsewhere and an initial shortage of supply.

PartySick

Maybe we should loan Biden to the EU later

His goal was 100 million vaccinated in the first 100 days of his term. Yesterday 1.6 million vaccines were administered so we're on track to obliterate that goal, possibly double it.

I hope all these governments and companies get this sh*t sorted so we can be done with this.

Whimsical bitch
