Perth in lockdown, ending Australia's two-week run without COVID-19

I dont think it had anything to do with that. They acted quickly and maybe a little luck involved that the virus innitially took a little longer to arrive

 

Virus doesnt care if u fly in or drive thru borders like in Europe. Its gonna spread regardless. Being surrounded by water is irrelevant

As somebody who lives in Southern California, seeing Australia and Aoteoroa handle this virus well makes me very, very jealous!

It's relevant because nobody is going to travel to Australia for a quick vacation, nobody is going to fly 24 hours there other than because they are australian and need to get back home. Less tourists, less spread, less business travels, less spread, and then they closed their border as they are not part of an union of any kind, it reduces travel even more. Australians themselves are not going to go far for pleasure nor business. So it does have a relevancy. When you think about a country like France, it's surrounded by many different countries and everyone just moves everywhere for any stupid reasons, English people going to France to skii, for pleasure, business, to see a loved one, then you got the swiss, the germans close to the French border, spanish, where some french people apparently went there to skii again, so people just move around so much more. If you are an island surrounded by water like new caledonia, OF COURSE it has a relevancy, it's so far and isolated from Europe, and America, and even Asia where the flight is super long

They are close to Asia. Just because Americans and Europeans dont travel to Australia in the same kind of way doesnt mean it doesnt have travel

 

Australia is still a pretty visited Country at 9.4 Million annually which is still a sizable number

As someone who lives in Perth, we've been partying for the last ten months 

We've had 0 community transmitted infections in all that time, with all our active cases being overseas or interstate travellers in quarantine. This was a quarantine breach where a security guard somehow got infected, which was picked up quickly due to the regular testing, and so the premier of the state has put us into lockdown for a week as a precaution. 

As somebody living here, i'm not super concerned about it. This person's contacts have all been tested and some in quarantine as a precaution and no locally acquired cases have been reported today. The lockdown is just reflective of how seriously Covid is being treated in Western Australia especially, one case has been detected and the state is in lockdown for a week to monitor the situation.

Hoping that there are no positive tests that arise in the next week so we can go back to 10 more months of partying honestly.
