Should we help stop the extinction of animals? Yes...Do humans need to pretend that they aren't the dominant species of the planet and without human intervention some animal species would be worse off? No... Yeah. The human race just can't ever be balanced about anything tbh For an entire of human history u get some kind of abuse or opression of a group of people or thing or lack of morality in some aspects then the moment movements start ppl wanna go to the exact opposite extreme to show they are progressive or enlightened or something but tbh just sound like a crazy fool have the times The human race growing up doesn't mean u have to turn stupid in the process we have an expression in Portuguese "de 8 a 80" (meaning from 8 to 80) which is an expression u use to describe jumping from one extreme to the other I low-key sometimes see conservative transformation to progressiveness in the same way sometimes tbh... And Peta is a perfect example

And Peta is a perfect example Vegans who oppose animal exploitation are not extreme in the slightest. The animal exploiters are the extreme ones. The idea that vegans are extreme is ridiculous, and luckily a fading idea. PETA is dumb, and unrepresentative of animal rights activists, but companies like Tyson and Smithfield are the extremes. Economy 52,861
Just now, Chromatican said: Then what are we being unbalanced about and what are the extremes being jumped between? Peta has always had an exagerated sense of justice. There's even been a video of them ripping out a dog from a homeless owner like they are some kind of animal police with the right to determine for everyone else what is acceptable and not to do Also I suspect there's a lot more to this idea of speciesism than just not eating meat or abuse. A lot of the kind of ppl that support this stuff are also the kind of people that get shook if your animal isn't allowed on the furniture like a couch for being a dog cuz equal treatment (even tho they get dirty when they go outside and they aren't going to mind if they have a seperate place to sit on) I seriously doubt these protests and their ideas are purely just about going vegan. There's a lot a whack ideas out there in my opinion and I'd bet these ppl in these protests share them But even if not, my comment is also generalized, it doesn't have to apply just to this particular case
KURUSHITOVSKA 20,451
They look like a kpop group on Halloween, what change are they trying to do? Any real change has to be done via laws, governments, etc, not activism. Like activism is good but very little people will do anything if it's not mandatory. People don't really care that much about animals ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula?

Read my original comment again. I replied to a user who said something and i expanded on some thoughts... my comment was never that specific to this OP to begin with I think ur so triggered on this thread with everyone that isnt sharing ur views that now ur starting to see things that were never even said in the first pace. The fact u specifically brough up vegan and asked my why i thought it was an extreme kinda shows me u didnt pay that much attention to what i was actually saying in the first place
ItWasntLaauv 6,392
I mean are they wrong? Listen I don’t like PETA, but the sentiment that humans are superior beings is trash. Animals feel pain and have emotions just like us. It’s scary how many animals are killed and exploited every single second for humans’ selfish desire to consume their body parts. But I also say that while I eat fish sometimes. It’s time for a change though, animal agriculture is literally depleting the planet’s resources quicker than any other industry. It’s a total strawman. It’s like saying advocating for gay rights around the world means someone must hate heterosexuals or wants gays to have special privileges. You are arguing against positions that aren’t included in the original post.
Peroxide555 587
Hmmm... okay, this is a loaded topic. I think it's ultimately wrong to create a parallel between "speciesism" with racism, transphobia, sexism etc... because as much as people would like to deny it, humanity has been at the top of the food chain for thousands and thousands of years... that's just reality. Unlike the vast majority of other living organisms we have the ability to decree right from wrong, invent, build, innovate etc... suggesting that we're no better or worse than a bird, snake, cow, dog etc... just doesn't feel right. To the pet owners out there, I give you a hypothetical - you're driving down a quiet country road and you see a burning car, inside that burning car you see a strangers baby, and a dog... you only have time to save one of them. Which one do you choose? And personally for me, hell even if it was my OWN dog, I'd save the baby every single time. And others have said, where do you draw the line? Technically plants are "alive" as such, as are insects... what constitutes "murder"? And there are tribes out there, people out there... that rely on hunting animals to survive... they aren't immoral simply because they need to eat. However, all that being said, animal cruelty is a very real issue, and the meat industry is literally killing the planet, it's the single biggest contributor to climate change and the fast food industry has been exposed time and time again for unethical breeding practices. The institution itself is pretty f*cking toxic... so I WOULD be in favour of transitioning into plant based alternatives for mainstream consumption in the future; but my reasons for doing so might be different from someone who buys into the idea of speciesism. It's a complicated issue, I think those that are straight up calling it "ridiculous" without taking the time to think critically about it are doing the movement a disservice - having said that, PETA are an absolutely vile organisation and I don't blame people for not wanting to support them. If you read all that - bless your heart.

Im arguing about how ppl tend to go to extremes (not necessairily anything in the specific situation of OP) because the user i was replying to said something on the second half of his comment i related with and kind od agreed it to which i then expanded on in a more generalized topic (which also included on things not related to animals) U got invovled in a reply between 2 other users where i wasnt saying what u thought i was saying. So relax Ur arguing now now if u think about it ends up being a debate on whether or not it was called for for me to go off topic a bit with my reply that wasnt even to you but to another user on top of that Ur being petty

If you read all that - bless your heart. Yeah i also personally disagree with that. Some ppl dont hold us to the same standards of every other animal when it comes to killing for food because "animals are just killing out of instinct to survive while humans understand what killing is and can reason and follow morals since we can survive without eating meat we should" But by saying eating for food doesnt apply to us because we can reason differently ur already admiting that were different from every other species on earth in our ability to reason and to have morals And if were different and unique and have a higher level of self awareness i also dont agree with the "were not better than a bird or a snake" argument either That doesnt mean i think animals should be abused or that their lives dont have value and they feel emotion too. I also get strongly apalled when i see how animals are treated in many circumstances especially commercially and i also think if we can exert more will power and phase off meat from our diet that would be best both environmentally and for the animals sakes. I myself eat meat but often feel guilty about it and acknowledge it would be better if i didnt and perhaps ill try to go vegetarian again like i have tried in the past But despite agreeing with the idea of not eating meat and that animals should not he abused, that doesnt mean i consider them fully equal to humans. I know thats controversial but thats my opinion
