But then so wouldn't most things we depend on? Manufacturing, mass food products, power, internet, houses, cars, waste management, easy access to drinkable water etc would hardly exist. I'm sure there will be some people in this world willing to work these things for free but with no job loss/income loss there would be no influence on quality control or completing the work. Most people will have to build their own place to live and would still need to barter for materials and supplies anyway so a form of currency would be created again as trading of goods like it used to be, it seems inevitable.

Yea it’s kind of a paradox. It really is much more complicated than I made it seem I was just throwing some food for thought since we are kind of trapped in our current way of living and it won’t change any time in the near future. I believe it benefits everyone to simply think of these ideas and break them apart, it could improve our current system. It really is inevitable to have a type of currency.

If a republican got into office in 2024, could this be repealed?

Biden will still be president in 2024 tho :poot:

edit: or Kamala if things go...south, but you get what I mean. They chose 2025 for that reason I think, and if the next president is a Republican and lowers the wage once people got used to it, it will definitely NOT be a popular move lol

Just hoping the Republicans keep with their infighting. The most backwards party I've ever seen, got hoping that Kamala gets picked as the nominee. I don't see Biden going for a second term due to his age, if he did and won he'd be 86 when he came out of office

I was just thinking about this the other day. According to a Wikipedia article he has expressed interest in trying for a second term, but apart from the fact that he would be 90+ at the end of it, the stress that comes with the presidency is incredibly heavy even for a young, active person like Obama. There's no way that Biden can survive a second term.

I always assumed he would only do the once term and possibly hand the baton to Kamala when his term is up. I had my doubts when it was announced to be the nominee due to his age. My fear would be if the GOP get a young energetic nominee in 2024 I fear they may win as Biden will be 82 in 2024.

If that happens, the DNC will name Kamala as the nominee. Please god please :poot:

Plsss I was just taking in this story. I’m glad there’s a recurring check to make the minimum wage suit the market + inflation more, but 2025 seems like a long time, even tho I think a slow transition is fair (despite $15 being 2000 and late in 2021). Experts say it should have been $24 in 2020 too like 🙃

Theres 1 critical detail that is often missed with the productivity argument when adjusted for inflation tho...

Most of these charts compare general economic output growth per worker on the economy as a whole not the specific industries that tend to actually pay minimum wage

I can garantee you a waiter serving food has not had their productivity increase as much as a worker operating a machine in a factory that is now 3X faster than the old one

Im not saying minimum wage shouldnt go up tho and thats actually something i frequently talk about that needs to happen

But i also dont like misleading exagerations (even if its in favour of a narrative i support like minimum wages) so i gotta point that out about the $24/h minimim wage :enigma:

This slow transition should be for small businesses only. Big companies like Walmart and Amazon are the biggest culprits of starvation wages, and can definitely handle a hike in a year. Hope this isn’t final...

Plus, if your small business cant handle a $15 minimum wage by 2025, maybe it’s a bad business model and it shouldn’t exist :gaycat: Businesses don’t deserve the right to exist like humans do.

It may sound harsh but its true. Some zombie businesses only hold back the economy by not making full potential use of their labor

If a company cant afford more than starvatiom wages... that worker is better off being put to use by another company that can pay a higher wage because of better productivity

Ppl do need to understand that employment nunbers alone are not the end goal nor do they garantee prosperity. Jobs for the sake of jobs doesnt create a vibrant, prosperous or competitive economy...

I think it was the soviet regime if im not mistaken that with a lot of government control manage to find employment for almodt every citizen but the average person was still poor. They had high employment but they were unproductive and uncompetitive so the economy still sucked

Gas price 2020 $2.60

Gas price 1997 $1.25

Minimum wage 1997 $5.15hr

Minimum wage 2020 $7.25hr

Gas price has more than doubled. Minimum wage should be at least at $12 hr right now.

Not to get too out of the box but it blows my mind humanity still pushes this idea of money. Money is a man made concept that if we all collectively decided it had no meaning would cease to exist. The only reason that doesn’t happen is because of wealthy people not wanting to give up having so much of it and creating systems we can’t break out of easily. The fact so much suffering happens on this planet because of money when we as humans are the only ones enforcing it. We could easily just choose to help out places devastated by financial issues but we don’t because of money. So much unnecessary suffering just because we don’t want to help and give resources to people living on the same planet as us. The whole debate on minimum wage is wild when you take into account that greedy people in power are deciding if someone has enough to just survive as they hoard all the wealth and laugh at all of us. I don’t know just random thoughts I had to get out lol

I agree with literally all of what you said, but a bitch needs to pay for gas lol

Gas is a commodity. Their prices are super volatile and not the best thing to gage inflation

Best to look at things like CPI which create an average for a number of things people spend money on

In principal this could work provided everyone maintains a work ethic despite not having the reward factor (which im skeptical many would maintain any level of drive tbh)

But what really makes me question this is the logistical nightmare of trying to fundamentally dismantle something this engraned

I think its a huge oversimplifocation of the problem to suggest the only reason the system cant change is because the wealthy dont want it to. I think even if the rich were on board with it hypathetically ir would still be an insanely complicated feat to pull off such a drastic change

But i agree with u money is the root of like 90% of evil, abuse and inhumaine acts. If we could somehow function without it, it would be better!
