SonOfAphrodite 1,838
Not to get too out of the box but it blows my mind humanity still pushes this idea of money. Money is a man made concept that if we all collectively decided it had no meaning would cease to exist. The only reason that doesn’t happen is because of wealthy people not wanting to give up having so much of it and creating systems we can’t break out of easily. The fact so much suffering happens on this planet because of money when we as humans are the only ones enforcing it. We could easily just choose to help out places devastated by financial issues but we don’t because of money. So much unnecessary suffering just because we don’t want to help and give resources to people living on the same planet as us. The whole debate on minimum wage is wild when you take into account that greedy people in power are deciding if someone has enough to just survive as they hoard all the wealth and laugh at all of us. I don’t know just random thoughts I had to get out lol

Ronnie 6,103
I work for a small business in AZ and when our minimum wage increased a few years back, it almost killed us. We had to raise prices which negatively affected our revenue which caused lay offs. Even if small businesses were allowed more time, it would be hard to find employees because they would all be working for larger corporations. shoful 13,304
Just now, FATCAT said: We're behind, but starting off with $15 is the right thing to do, even Bernie supports that number. Once we get in the habit of updating the minimum wage, 15 -> 20 will be a lot easier. This first step more than doubles the minimum wage, and adjustments can be made once we spring back from Covid. Agreed it’s just sad that like somehow along the way politics became the mess that it is. Like why did it become acceptable to not continuously update the minimum wage like they used to!? Politics took such a corrupt dive in the 70s "My name is Dita, I'll be your Mistress tonight..."

We shouldn’t excuse small businesses for underpaying their employees. If you cannot afford to pay your employees. DON’T HAVE A BUSINESS. I’m sure many business will be able to cut costs somewhere less important to stay afloat than their employees wages "My name is Dita, I'll be your Mistress tonight..." When you work for a small company that is barely surviving, they are OFTEN run by really nice people who put themselves last and make sacrifices to always pay employees on time and it's hard to not be sympathetic towards them. But I agree with you because what I just described is a dysfunctional situation that usually doesn't improve and it's probably better to just end it so everyone involved can find something better. I'm just saying i get why people defend the argument and it comes from a good place. But also at some point we gotta draw the line and hold companies accountable to pay people a wage that they can live off of "My name is Dita, I'll be your Mistress tonight..." Ronnie 6,103
Also, I think people forget that if your entry level employees wages go up, you would need to increase wages for employees that have been with the company and have been promoted to higher paying positions. So people who make $15 NOW will suddenly have been demoted to a minimum wage job which means basically MOST wages will need to go up. That's a good point. Minimum wage should have been slowing increasing, I think that's the main point, but since it didn't, there needs to be a harsh adjustment which is going to shake up a lot of ****. Forget? No, the median wage going up is a good thing. They should get higher wages too. CEOs are extremely overpaid in general. Cc @Bonkers
Chromatican 4,046
This is a step in the right direction, but a four year rollout seems too long of a process, especially if a Republican can undo it in four years.

Manufacturing, mass food products, power, internet, houses, cars, waste management, easy access to drinkable water etc would hardly exist. I'm sure there will be some people in this world willing to work these things for free but with no job loss/income loss there would be no influence on quality control or completing the work. Most people will have to build their own place to live and would still need to barter for materials and supplies anyway so a form of currency would be created again as trading of goods like it used to be, it seems inevitable.
