Squidward T 2,470
WARNING: Article has disturbing video A 52 year old black man was both tasted and shot by a police officer after a mental health check. The man was unarmed and did not pose any real danger or threat to the police officer. In the video? You can clearly see he is wearing a blue and red lives matter face mask https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/01/23/us/patrick-warren-killeen-officer-shot-kill-video/index.html

FATCAT 60,888
"Warren initially falls down but then stands back up and continues to push toward the officer. Contreras uses the taser again, but Warren keeps advancing and Contreras deploys his firearm." That seems like a pretty important detail, he was tased twice and still came at the officer.. PartySick 172,465
Why would they opt to send an officer that isn't equipped to deal with an irrational and mentally unwell individual? Especially when they just had a mental health deputy out the day before who was able to escort him to the hospital. The police wear too many hats. They should NEVER send a cop out on a call about a mental health check or anything mental health related without a professional taking point on the call. And now this man has lost his life due to this officer's utter lack of training. Fix the damn system. Whimsical bitch

It seems to be the standard unfortunately, I've heard multiple times where welfare checks in America end up with the police shooting the person they are checking up on. Even remember a guy who was suicidal and the cop beat him up, someone already at their lowest point in life yet they just make it worse for them. Even remember a guy who was suicidal and the cop beat him up, someone already at their lowest point in life yet they just make it worse for them. It's so messed up. From the ground up too. Sometimes I feel bad blaming the cops (excluding the bigoted pricks, obviously) or dispatchers because they're not equipped by their employers to handle certain situations. Imho, I don't think this cop wanted to shoot him but that's all he's been trained to do. Of course he needs to be held accountable but I wouldn't put the blame solely on him either. The dispatcher or whoever decided to send this cop instead of a mental health expert like the day before needs to be held accountable. But then even they may not be properly trained to call the right person for the right job. I have several dispatchers and law enforcement officers at different levels in my family and it seems that they're expected to "wing it" a lot. It's horrifying because it leads to incidents like this one. And it's not even rare Whimsical bitch

I'm not saying that it was justified, just that the officer isn't to blame, it's ultimately whomever sent him there. He wasn't trained or ready to handle a psych call, and dispatchers shouldn't have sent him This kitten over here (meow)

It seems completely irrational and detached from reality to completely absolve the officer of wrong doing considering he’s a literal murderer now... 47 minutes ago, FATCAT said: "Warren initially falls down but then stands back up and continues to push toward the officer. March34th 1,973
law enforcement should not be sent to deal with mental health wellness checks. i can attest to how terrible the police handle this, when i was 14 my friends mom called the police on me because he told her i had depression and she had a freakout and convinced herself that meant i was in imminent danger of suicide, and the police harassed me for an hour and forced their way into my house, forcing my parents to come home early from work and basically bullying me about my mental health and making me feel like a criminal. it's so disgusting how things like this happen because society views being mentally ill as something that is unsavory or wrong
