Lighter 15,376
what’s crazy for me is that the more we’ve gotten to know Gaga the more I’ve realized that Lady Gaga is indeed a character. She wasn’t lying when she said everyday she k*lls to make her art a reality because art is a lie. She sure as hell convinced me that she was a tirelessly transforming extravagant performer on and off stage when I was younger. But seeing her human side really did make me love her more
MaybeKermit 3,624
It was really interesting until he called ARTPOP her 3rd album and started discussing it befoee BTW lmao Also: what's up with the timeline? He discusses TF then TFM then goes to ARTPOP, then talks about the vma 2009 perfoemance and continues with Cheek to Cheek? Way too confusing tbh
Papergangstuh 2,534
People who don't count The Fame Monster as an album still type her name like "Lady GaGa"

Way too confusing tbh the presentation was not solely chronological: it was divided into segments that cohere, as much as possible, into a thematic unity with the purpose of explicating the different, albeit quite interwoven, facets of the lady gaga edifice. it's an intricate, complex (w)hole: a constantly transforming void whose identity is always in flux. remember: stefani's nickname was loopy—it's no surprise that the narrative of lady gaga is also a self-reflecting loop that, while taking turns, folds onto and back into itself. she's a disco ball that has to constantly face the darkness that fills her out from within. finding her footing in a well-contoured, "fair and square" self is an unachievable, idealistic, inner roundness that, ironically, does shape her mental properties. in other words, she's left hanging. and so is the spectator. she's there—but not actually there. this does not mean that stefani is empty within herself—it means that stefani is not a singularity: she's an artist, and as an artist, she intends her art (lady gaga) to be every icon. it follows that a simplified, chronological approach to map out who lady gaga—or what this construction—is would not suffice to describe a trajectory. a trajectory that is, in fact, not a trajectory but an (ARTPOPist) inferno whose identity elements, rooted in traumatic memories and artistic mirrorings, are being assembled and re-assembled in real time. over and over, again and again. in front of our eyes, the artist gives birth to her art—stefani to lady gaga. and the very color with which she paints is moroon: lady gaga is stefani's flesh and blood. she couldn't be more here, more now, or more real. we, members of the public, bear witness to her presence/authenticity being contemporary: as a performance piece, stefani is always with(in) lady gaga, and lady gaga is always with(in) our culture. she's a cultural currency that cannot be spent. she's in. lady gaga has always already been in—in stefani's and our s. in our hearts and arts—lady gaga resides. Spoiler interestingly: maroon /məˈruːn/ verb: maroon; 3rd person present: maroons; past tense: marooned; past participle: marooned; gerund or present participle: marooning leave (someone) trapped and alone in an inaccessible place, especially an island. stella + elliot = stelliot

Babel 40,887
People really didn’t pay the attention this video deserve. It explains Lady Gaga at her core, but I guess the gays are more invested on her “slaying your faves”.

ProdigyARTPOP 3,882
Honestly, people forget Gaga was one of a select few group of students who gained early admission to NYU and she studied theory and rhetoric as well as performance art, there’s a reason she continues to succeed and she blew up as big as she did and why she speaks and thinks so well, she’s more than the average musician
