A Bipolar Canadian man who tried to get treatment at a Toronto hospital for excrutiating leg pain who could not walk was told to go home after doctors found out he was Bipolar and immediately did not take him seriously and assumed he was either faking it or that he was imagining it

The man fell on the floor after he was unable to walk and a nurse went up to him saying "come on your a big boy, you can do it"

After 20 minutes of struggle a security guard finally helped him to the exit where he was sent home on a taxi untreated

Later it was discovered the man actually has a condition in which the bodys immune system attacks its own nerves.

This incident occured 2 years ago in April 2018 but only recently came to light as the hospital after finding out about their error tried to prevent video footage from coming out on the grounds the man may unblur the faces of the people in video and would be a privacy violation

The audacity of management trying to use privacy as a scapegoat to not have video handed over.

They knew they royally forked up and thats the best excuse they could come up with to try and keep it under wraps :saladga:

This is horrible, they should ALL be fired. Disgusting.

I get that sometimes staff have to put up with a lot situations from those suffering from mental illness. I myself witnessed some real difficult patients when i was hospitalized for mental health

But first of all, those suffering from mental illness need kindness and care. Even if something turns out to be all in their head, bluntly dismissing them will only make any emotional components of their mental illness worse

Secondly how dare they just assume. Does having a mental illness somehow make u suddenly immune to having physical ailments as well and that if you complaim about pain it must be in ones head??? :madge:

The neglect and incompetence :madge:

Last year there was a scandal in an Ontario nursing home (i swear my Province is the worst for medical neglect out of sheer incompetence) of an old woman pressing the emergency help button a bunch of times and not getting help while PSW workers were laughing in background and goofing around. She couldnt breathe and died of suffocation as she pleaded for help and workers werent even aware cuz they were goofing around instead of working

Ughhhhh :saladga:

good thing they fired the nurse involved. the way she was kicking his legs to get him to move:saladga: no professional healthcare worker would do something like that

I have chronic pain in my legs and while I have not been treated this badly I can say that doctors definitely care very little. They think you are fishing for pain meds when I literally avoid taking Tylenol or Advil because I’m afraid of the damage it can cause your liver.

I know I am lucky to live in a country where healthcare is “free” but I avoid going to the doctor because I know from experience they do not take my health conditions seriously or want to help me.
