So did he pick her for actual merit or for being trans/a token? :haroon:

i am sure she has been chosen purely on her ability to do the job better than anyone else in line for it and not to tick the woke box on a virtue signalling list. americans will have to judge, let's not be too cynical

Her being trans is part of her merit; in order to make sure the healthcare needs of the trans community are addressed, we need trans people in power. Also, you know, she's a Harvard-educated doctor and the current Pennsylvania Health Secretary, so she's more than qualified for the job.

Why is it whenever someone adds some inclusivity and diversity in a decision (like picking this person), it's always speculated that this is inauthentic and that person is just the token trans or token black or token asian.

I’m so excited for the rest of 2021.  Amazing things are going to happen this year.  We can finally breathe a little easier.

I‘m glad he realized that the only way to undo trump’s division is to make the government reflect the diversity America stands for, working for the people, as a government by the people.

This is great representation but I'm worried about the neolibs like Biden himself, Pete, and even Harris.  We had to get rid of the fascist but let's hold these centrist Dems' feet to the fire.  Thank goodness Bernie has the Senate Budget Committee Chair position in the Senate and that The Squad is still fighting!

Not trying to complain, but I was told over the last 4-5 years that if I voted blue no matter who, we could move (insert candidate) further left.  Fingers crossed!  I won't be so easily persuaded to vote Democrat if sweeping, progressive changes are not made in the next 4 years.

Some of y’all need to lower your expectations a bit. This is still America after all, and we all saw how close this election was. We were never going to get someone like Bernie in the White House last decade. Biden and Harris will do as the same Obama and Biden did, no one should be shocked or logically hoping for anything different, especially after Trump.

Isn't it reasonable to think that there will be some semblance of difference given that democrats now have control of the house and senate?

We went from the government deleting trans people out of official documents to a trans secretary, oof

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Both being Democratic controlled doesn’t mean the party doesn’t still have a divide as op said. I think the actions will be easier to do, but like I said i really wouldn’t expect anything more liberal than what the Obama administration did. We still live in America, after all. Our socio economic role in the world isn’t going to change during this term like far left liberals hope it will. That’s just setting yourself up for dissatisfaction.

Funny how people only ever talk about merit when it’s a minority. If it was a white man his merit wouldn’t even be questioned. Thats racism’s heritage

No, because people act like just picking a minority is supposed to be some meaningful change, but if it’s a minority who upholds the legacy of wh!te supremacy, who the hell cares?

If it’s a white man there’s not even a point of questioning, it’s straight to the eye rolls. (altho not all are bad). This isn’t the automatic yasss y’all think it is. I get the title but OP should have highlighted how she might govern.

However, after reading the article, she seems alright. Biden picking people w/ trailblazing ideas and identities >>> it’s the unity™️ jumping out methinks.

Because so many people of color have been historically used to oppress their own communities... not this not being obvious. america’s first VP of Color was a native american man who dressed his office in native american decorations, but was a disaster for the first nations 🙃 That’s just a microcosm of so much mess unfortunately.

I see why people are excited. But regardless of their sexual orientation, race, gender, etc. Whoever is put in charge should be so for being qualified to do the job.

That's a really interesting history fact and I'd like to look more into it, what was his name?
