Prisoners don’t deserve the right to vote.

Everyone however fortunately or unfortunately deserves the right to vote. There is no single more anti-democratic statement. Especially considering the disgrace that is the incarceration system and the prison-industrial complex (should the absurd amount of people of colour incarcerated for life for weed possession not be allowed to vote?).

As the old saying goes - if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. Especially for those in prison that hurts others they don’t deserve the vote. I personally think those who committed henious crimes like murder, rape etc should be strip of every human right and made to suffer

That's what this gang of "progressives" on GGD do. They derail ever thread about a Democrat by smearing them with irrelevancies.

And they abuse the f*ck out of reactions, like @ALGAYDO, which is why I call them the can't-react-crew :billie:

Welcome!

So you’d rather people turn a blind eye to their party’s bad actions? Gross, that sounds like something republicans love doing. Why would you want your party to do that?

They were used to keep younger children away from adult strangers, so yes, they were okay then. The government kept minors away from adult strangers and actively looked for relatives in the US that the minors could be sent to.

That situation is completely different than Trump separating parents from young children.

people just like to say “oh Obama deported more people” without literally any ****ing context. It’s really not hard to do some research.

People even trying to act like the deportations and the style in which they were done between Obama and Trump are AT ALL similar are incredibly moronic.

You know what? Thank you for that insight. I was under the impression that the Obama administration built those detention centers with cages, but never actually used them. That’s what I read, which isn’t “evil” but still kinda bad. And although I appreciate them trying to separate kids from strangers, those cage-like cells were NOT it, and I’m still pissed off that Obama’s team thought it was a good a idea.

People truly needing help and feeling compelled to move mountains for their families for the sake of survival is normal.

What isn’t reasonable is to be taking anyone and everyone without understanding their full story, or have endless resources to take in or provide top notch hospitality.

Yes, we are a very wealthy country, and I, too, am saddened by inequities.

There should be limits, borders, and a reasonable pathway to citizenship. It’s fair, legal, and welcoming if/when newcomers incorporate themselves into the fabric of the United States.

Would you allow anyone to stay with you indefinitely or have new people come into your house every other day and eat all your food?

Why is a higher standard different when it comes to the government?

I would give the shirt off my back and a warm bed to sleep in, but there needs to be a plan for these individuals and families.

"If you're not targeting and focused on people who recently arrived, then the border is effectively open," Muñoz said, adding: "It is more humane to be removing people who have been here two weeks than it is to be removing people who have been here for 20 years and have families."

Do you really think that that’s okay?

I never said anything was okay LOL. I literally said I think anyone comparing Obama and Trump’s policies and rhetoric and style in which these deportations took place and thinking they are equal are absolutely moronic. And I stand by that, he kept a large amount undocumented children safe from deportation and tried to avoid deporting people who had built a life here. I do think that is better than ripping away children from their parents at the border.

"President Obama, I think, did a heck of a job. To compare him to what this guy's doing is absolutely -- I find close to immoral”

-Biden

Also, just another note to everyone here, why is everything always so extreme and partisan, why is it people cant seem to fathom that it’s incredibly possible to be content with what Obama did and acknowledge the growth while still acknowledging that their were flaws and we can still do and improve on so much. Why is it when you mention something might not be perfect with Obama it means your a facist? I’m so sick of the divide.

I honestly hate these threads I don’t know why I come into them. None of you learn/do anything productive. You all just bicker and yell at one another. It’s literally a microcosm of our government, congratulations LOL :interestinga:

Nobody here said that Obama/Biden are just as bad as Trump tho? All we are saying is that Obama did indeed have shortcoming when it comes to immigration. No, he wasn’t as bad a republican (I mean, hello, he signed DACA into law, which helped hundreds of thousands of immigrants), but he wasn’t great either. We should be allowed to criticize our own party’s leaders for their wrongdoings, sir.

That’s literally what I just said lol...let me quote myself again so you can read it this time:

edit: Honestly kinda confused why you even quoted me and responded to me in the first place, cause you clearly agree with me that Obama and Trump and their immigration policies are very different. Never said Obama was perfect. You assumed I thought that. So that’s on you. Not me.

In the initial post I quoted you on, you made it seem like 1) you agree on Obama’s deportations, and 2) people here are trying to make Obama/Biden worse than Trump. I tried to explain to you that 1) Obama wasn’t good in immigration and that 2) no, we are not. Dassit. Nothing deeper, but okay lol

Hard disagree. Being imprisoned should cost you some civil liberties but not the right to vote. You don't stop being a citizen.

I've also seen some arguments that, due to the penal system's blatant bias against racial minorities, restricting their right to vote could arguably violate the 15th amendment.

Let's be real though, the US' entire penal/justice system is completely broken anyway :rip:

Once again, never did I say that each and everything that Obama did regarding immigration was good or done well. If you assumed that by me posting one article, ops that’s on you. Own it and move on.

I have no clue why you quoted me when we literally never disagreed, you were so quick to just attack anyone and assume their opinions that you make yourself look like an ass :bye:
