Also, and this will be controversial... but the sooner the “rich countries” solve their problems, the quicker they will move on philanthropic campaigns to aid countries with more vaccine doses. Is it fair? Nope, but it will always be the case.

Exactly this.

It's the same concept as, “before you assist others, always put your oxygen mask on first.”

If rich countries don't get their economies running adequately soon, they'll lose the means to help poorer countries. Any then what will happen? Who will step in to save us?

Ofcourse, we developed and produces those vaccins, without us nobody would have a vaccine, so ofcourse we're the first ones getting many of it. The rest can get in line or pay up, the world don't run on love, it runs on money.

I mean youre not wrong. Mexico is a third world country but they pre ordered millions of vaccines from different laboratories since summer 2020 and now we're getting our vaccines fairly quickly compared to other poor countries

Anyways.. WHO should focus their energy and finances towards production of those vaccines so everyone could be vaccinated.

We? Who is we? Where exactly is your contribution and why do you think you are entitled to anything?

Mexico actually accepted a reduction of the amount of vaccines that are coming in order to give it to even poorer latinoamerican countries like venezuela and Argentina.

The harsh reality. People are upset because it's the upsetting truth of our society.

Economy

This is a poor argument. Nothing stopped poor contries from making their own contracts exept for the fact that they didnt have the money to buy a whole lot of doses

If we didnt buy contracts they still wouldnt get much

This is like saying ppl in rich countries shouldnt eat because theres ppl going hungry in africa. If i starved myself thats not going to help anyone in Africa

Now they can promote rich countries pledging more financial support so the poor countries can get shots too. That i would support and would make sense too

Omg I had no idea there were users in here who helped develop and produce the vaccines, that is so cool!

Exactly.  Limited production is a big problem that needs to be solved.  Apparently Biden plans to address that even it means the U.S. Govt building a production facility.

Reject False Icons

First of all pharmaceutical companies are just like any other big corporation, they are going to look for their benefits, of course rich countries are going to take most of the vaccines, plus they are allies. Unfair, yes, but in this economy it was obviously going to happen

rich countries don’t help poor countries really, they need them to keep being poor for them to be rich. Don’t be fooled by “kind organizations” on the big picture their impact is minimal and too superficial to really help poor countries

the corruption of poor countries govs already make the situation worse by using the rich and politicians influence to secretly get vaccinated, before people who really needs it

I don't think people here are understanding the true mean of it. Countries like England bought 20 times more doses of different vaccines than the number of its citizens and many other rich countries did the same.

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

The larger question:  Is it the moral responsibility for a person, organization, or country to care for others even at the expense of their own well-being or health?   I think Gaga would say "yes".  Gaga was told by doctors she shouldn't keep performing because of her hip.  But she did because she didn't want to disappoint fans.  She kept going until she was hospitalized with a broken hip.  Then, she knew she had fibro and was advised against performing but kept going until she was hospitalized with fibro.  She was super wealthy and in both cases could have walked away from her tour to save her own health, and still would be super wealthy.  She literally gave of her own physical well-being to not disappoint others.

I think the vaccine issue comes down to should a country help out others before their own populace has been vaccinated.   People in the wealthy country could die if they did that, so it's a moral issue and there are arguments on both sides.
