Yes but that's true for most pre-existing conditions. Hospitals aren't going to cross check all your health data to make sure you actually have asthma, assuming they even have access to it in the first place. Most of the hospitals that people are getting it at they've never been to. This kitten over here (meow)

MJHolland 12,725
@Agunimon @Helxig You all really don't get it, huh? The vaccine rollout plan isn't designed to reinforce your biases or make you feel like "justice" is being served. This is about public health. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention has put out specific guidance that the vaccine rollout achieves three goals: (1) Decrease COVID-19 deaths and serious disease (2) Preserve functioning of society (3) Reduce the extra burden COVID-19 is having on people already facing disparities Vaccinating people from this virus who are at high risk of severe illness, regardless of whether is genetic, behavioral, or occupational, IS THE TOP PRIORITY! Our hospitals are full capacity all over and they're literally being forced into providing triage care for EVERYONE. That means if you burn or cut yourself or are having a heart attack and have to rush to the ER, doctors and nurses can only do the minimum possible things to save your life before they have to rush onto the next patient. We HAVE to stop that, and that means vaccinating the people most vulnerable to severe illness. Otherwise we will continue to have a complete collapse of society (lockdown!) because we cannot afford to operate our healthcare system like that. Spoiler meanwhile we have celebrities like Dua Lipa who are on instagram flaunting smoking to their young fans and yet you all blame them for getting addicted... But we owe it to frontline workers to do as much as we can to stop sending severely ill people to the hospital, which is why smokers, and people who are overweight and obese, must be prioritized when it comes to vaccination. Asthma is pretty far down the list as COVID-19 comorbidity goes. Up until mid-fall 2019, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America was saying that asthma was not in anyway a COVID-19 comorbidity. Spoiler From their website: "Data show no increased risk of COVID-19 infection or severity of COVID-19 disease in people with asthma. The CDC does list moderate-to-severe asthma as a possible risk factor for severe COVID-19 disease, but there are no published data to support that at this time. I just expressed my frustration in their priority compared to specifically asthma which affects me, but also a multitude of other diseases that I didn't mention. The full list is: moderate to severe asthma, cerebrovascular disease, cystic fibrosis, hypertension or high blood pressure, people in an immunocompromised state from blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids, or use of other immune weakening medicines, neurologic conditions such as dementia, liver disease, those who are overweight, with pulmonary fibrosis, thalassemia (a type of blood disorder) and Type 1 diabetes. This list is specific to New Jersey, though. In addition, public transportation workers and food service. This thread was mostly because I spend a lot of time here and I was angry and needed somewhere to talk about this.

Do you know there are many of people of productive age with wealthy parents or wealthy themselves already getting vaccinated also? Why do you think these vaccines running out quickly? Idk where you live (Germany?) but my state is literally threatening to take away the medical licenses of doctors caught doing this. Same as in New York and California. This isn't happening (yet?) in the United States. We're also not really running out of vaccines here yet. Our rollout logistics have been SH!T. We have millions of doses going unused bc states were not prepared to administer them, and many doses are even being thrown away.
Ivy 13,813
I can see how you would be upset coming from your situation and especially with suffering asthma as well. I had asthma when I was little (I grew out of it) and I know how scary it is Thankfully many smokers are more polite and caring than your family and they'll go outside and stuff when they're around non-smokers, and a lot of them do want to quit as well but it's very hard to do the meow in zombieboy

A lot of eating habits are taught (or rather, not taught) by the parents. I knew a few obese children growing up that never managed to lose the weight to get out of that obese level. Some parents use food as a way to get their kids to shut up, with no thought as to the nutrition or the calories they are consuming. My sister isn't obese, but she is very overweight because my dad just has no understanding. She is very unhappy about it as well. You can say the same for smoking my grandparents and a couple of my friends all started smoking 'cause their parents did. Either they snuck cigarettes away or they were directly permitted to smoke. I have a friend that started smoking at 7 because her mom shared with her daughters Just be glad people are getting the vaccine tbh. I decided not to get too bothered with whose arm the vaccine is going into. As long as someone is getting it then we're on the right path. But priority isn't based on what feels "just". It's about who is more likely to get more sick and go to the already overwhelmed ER (which is why we have lockdowns btw!). Almost all the data shows that people who smoke are more likely to develop severe illness than those with asthma. The evidence that asthma is a COVID-19 comorbidity is really very minimal. It's just what makes sense in this moment. Please don't try to make yourself feel better by putting others down, including smokers.
