TaylorSwift 162,287 Posted January 15, 2021 Share Posted January 15, 2021 Long-time leader (35 years in power) Yoweri Museveni took an early lead in Uganda’s presidential election according to preliminary results on Friday, though his main rival said there had been widespread fraud and his supporters had the right to protest. With 29.4% of votes from Thursday’s ballot counted, Museveni had won 1,852,263 votes, or 63.9%, while main opposition candidate singer-turned-lawmaker Bobi Wine had 821,874 (28.4%). Bobi Wine calls for political change, told a news conference he had video proof of voting fraud. ♦ On Monday Facebook has taken down pro-Museveni network in Uganda linked to the country’s ministry of information for using fake and duplicate accounts to post ahead of election for being part of an effort to manipulate the election debate. (source) ♦ On Tuesday the government was enforcing all social media and messaging apps shutdown. ♦ On Wednesday, the government ordered an internet blackout until further notice.
