Sony unveiled a new technology - featuring Epic Record artist Madison Beer - at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) on Monday that looks a lot like an actual live concert.

Madison Beer as a virtual avatar performing her song “Boyshit” at Sony Hall in New York before a virtual live audience on a virtual stage in a meticulous facsimile of the venue, she was actually performing in a studio, wearing a virtual-reality suit. While it still looks like ultra-sophisticated animation, it’s getting closer every year to looking like real life.

Fans will be able to view the Madison Immersive Reality Concert Experience on Oculus VR and PlayStation VR, and as an immersive 2D experience, which will be broadly available on streaming music video channels. It is set to debut later this winter.

This doesn't seem at all user accessible or much enjoyable

We love some out of the gate negativity. It‘s designed for VR and new technology often requires new gear etc. you can‘t expect new technologies to only rely on the same old screens or computers or whatever. Also it says in the variety article that it‘ll also be available to view in 2D without VR

VR is ableist so I'm glad 2D is an option.

I don't fully understand why you would put so much effort into faking the concert experience, since it won't ever replace the real thing. HOWEVER, the technology is really, really interesting. UK based artist Griff used it to deliver an outstanding live performance:

This is really, really cool. And I know for those saying different it’s because they wish the pop stars they were fans of were doing this. Hopefully this is just the beginning.

what does later this winter mean? Winter happens twice in one calendar year. Just say March or December 💀

Why the constant bashing? You can dislike something without it being related to the artist. For me, yes, the technology is cool, however it could never replace the actual feeling of being at a concert, whereas in the example of Griff's song above I like how it is used to enhance a live performance (mimicking live performance vs. creating a new live experience).

such an amazing execution! The concept is obvious but they really made it look amazing. Saves so much money too w setting up stages, traveling, almost all costs lol (but of course this is not quite comparable to in person experience)

I was saying the technology is really cool and you’d be lying to say otherwise. That’s my opinion not bashing anyone.mp3? :neyde: Lady Gaga literally uses some of the same technology in Enigma. Which is fixed in one place in the world. Saying it isn’t accessible or that it won’t replace the real thing is irrelevant because they’re not trying to replace concerts.
