Sis... child’s play remake is the one that flopped at the box office :green:

Yet it still went to the box office. What was Don's last high grossing Chucky Movie? Oh Oh okay. Definitely wasn't those last two straight to dvd/tv movies nor was it seed of Chucky. Decades of flops.

With all the **** Child's Play got from whiny fanboys/fraudulent directors + opening same day as a Disney movie, Managing to do 4x it's budget, I wouldn't call that a flop :huntyga: And Apparently, Neither would Don seeing how inspired the new tv show is from the remake. (read the pilot and it's a carbon copy of the 2019 film)

The franchise would be nothing without Tom, but Don also wrote all the movies. There’s a reason Cult is the most critically acclaimed Chucky movie despite no theatrical release. Universal should have more faith in the franchise because the last one to hit theaters was back in like 2003. In the end the remake (despite being good) doesn’t compare to the original.

I like all the movies, I’m just saying the remake didn’t live up to the original

Suspiria (2018) is an amazing remake of the original movie (1977)

Suspiria ATE the original for breakfast lunch dinner and midnight snack.

And the original is GREAT.

So happy to see other Suspiria stans on here, it’s literally my favorite movie of the past 10 years :firega:

More on topic, I’d say the best remakes are definitely the ones that don’t try to imitate or surpass the originals - if you have nothing new to say, why bother?

Another personal favorite of mine is Peter Jackson’s King Kong.

In extremely, morbidly bound to the original for personal reasons, so I was ready to bash the sh*t of the remake (plus Guadagnino is not always my cup of tea, let's see it that way) and I was pleasently surprised, because the remake is fairly different from the original and pays it respect, it's like Dracula: a different take on a classical topic. Dario Argento hated it, mainly because he lost all of his talent and has to criticize everyone making good horror nowadays (if the film is mediocre, he just doesn't say anything; if the film is good he gets annoyed because he still thinks he's a top director and becomes a hater lol)

I really liked the modern remake of Cinderella. I felt the actors did a really great job, Cate Blanchett is always good of course, but also Kip the prince and Ella were charming too. I re-watched it recently, and it still holds up.

honestly that’s not really a “remake,” it’s just another adaptation of the fairy tale

Best:  The Ring (2002)

Worst:  Beauty and the Beast. Emma Watson as belle: :fail:

idg why the didn’t get someone who could sing. and like yeah she’s talented and good looking so i’m not hating on her looks....but isn’t that character supposed to be like the most gorgeous creature to ever walk the earth.

The movie was wrong on so many levels that it was obvious it was only made to make a lot of money because of the title and that’s it.

I think you really pointed out what makes a good remake: bringing a different take to a story that is already known. That's why all the ASIB movies can stand on their own, and sometimes overshadow their predecessors: it's like a Shakespearian tragedy, adapted for a new generation each time. The overall story is the same, but the execution is different enough for people to be entertained. And on the other end of the spectrum, we have Disney, so obsessed with their own legacy that they can't seem to be interested in delivering anything new...

I am a big fan of the original Suspiria as well, and hiring someone like Guadagnino, who's vowed a life-long passion to this film, to remake it was absolutely the thing to do (even tho he wasn't necessarily the most obvious choice, so props to Amazon Studios for having the balls to do the right thing). The result went way beyond my expectations, and to quote your own expression, I'm still very much morbidly obsessed with it 2 years after first seeing it :laughga:
