America's gun laws are a confusing patchwork stitched together by state, county, and city regulations.

For example: in most of New York State, you can carry a concealed pistol if you get a simple permit. However, in NYC, all firearms possession is banned without a (hard to get) permit.

California has some of the strictest gun laws in the US. In LA, it's generally not permissible to possess an unsecured firearm outside of your home.

However, in Texas, state law pre-empts local law, so open carrying of firearms without a permit is allowed everywhere.

In short: it's complicated!
