For an objection to a state's vote to be considered, it has to be a written document signed by at least one member of the House and one from the Senate.

Each recognized objection gets two hours of debate time in each congressional chamber, but this year that duration may be considerably longer due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The objection is then put to a vote to sustain or dismiss.
