A few examples: - baby carrots - potatoes - beans - chick peas - tuna - rice This is just a quick off the top of my head stuff there's certainly a lot more items. U don't have to buy pre packaged stuff or pasta all the time. There are affordable healthy or relatively healthy stuff too. But it takes work and preparation. I honestly think that's what truly ends up getting in the way Absolutely, that’s what I mean when I say it isn’t realistic. Some people simply Don’t have the time or skill. It takes practice to get good at prepping and cooking. And after all that effort you might not even enjoy the food. Meanwhile cheaper, highly palatable food is everywhere. Also for people with stomach/digestive issues, beans are a food they usually have to avoid. Thus limiting their options. I know a lot of people that say they can’t try veganism because their bodies cannot process beans.

I know a lot of people that say they can’t try veganism because their bodies cannot process beans. No I get that and I agree. The entire marketing system encourages bad habits which is why so many fall into them. There's a lot of cheap and easy prepared already food. Even restaurants the cheapest and fastest are always junk I'm just saying u can't put 100% of the blame on that. We still have a choice whether to scumb to that laziness or not. Like u can learn how to cook and plan. Most ppl just can't be bothered to these days because it's more work. And yes to be fair because some items are more expensive these days, a healthy food on a budget is harder than in the past so it's even more work On a somewhat related note, more and more medical studies are mounting that if u eat a lot of processed foods and not enough fibre and good foods u have a much higher chance of developing the intolerance to those foods in the first place cuz ur digestive system and the flora are no longer made for it I kinda believe in those medical theories cuz I myself had pretty bad IBS and struggled big time anytime I tried to eat healthy and always reacted less bad to processed foods. I guess I too built up my system to adapt to that After a while of slowly re-introducing healthy food tho I found that there's stuff I tolerate way better now that before was difficult for me to handle such as beans and kale or other leafy greens for example I'm still too intolerant to handle carneferus vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts or cauliflower for example tho. Cow milk continues to be an issue as well so I drink goat milk now (that one is definitely not for people on a budget cuz it's triple the price per litre )
Kadikaado 4,302
This guy is so stupid! I was expecting he was going to say the best solution was FREE HEALTH instead, but he comes with this hippie stupid idea that food heals everything... Like "I was hit by a car" so I am gonna eat spinach and suddenly my broken bones are perfect again just like Popeye, "I have cancer" then I eat gluten free for a month and I am cancer free, "I have myopia" I eat a bag of baby carrot and suddenly I can see perfectly again, "I am trans" all I need to do is to eat a bag of soy beans because they have female-like hormones, "I had a stroke" I just need to eat tuna and then I regain all the movement of my body, "I have corona" I am gonna eat oranges because C Vitamin is gonna heal me... This is dumb, dumb, dumb!! Yes, eating healthy can prevent LOTS of disease and we should learn some basics of nutrition at school, but eating health doesn't solve 1/3 of the problems. If you are diabetic type 2 dieting can help you become insulin free in most cases, but it's not happen to everyone. I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes. thehanyo 4,251
We can encourage healthier eating and also encourage better access to healthcare for all at the same damned time. They're not mutually exclusive. Michelle Obama's entire campaign as FLOTUS was to get kids to be eating healthier and exercising more. Did she hate poor people? No. Stop being overly sensitive. If nearly half of the US is obese, it has nothing to do with food deserts, give me a break lmao. It's a much, much bigger and more complicated problem than that. ToxicHot 6,444
I mean..... I suppose he’s right but his “solution” isn’t ideal. What about people who have illnesses or diseases unrelated to their diet/eating patterns? So stupid. dOnT sAd ReAcT mE 2 bE sHaDy i WiLL RePoRt U!!1! MonsterofFame 1,797
Sorry, but he's right. Did humans need toothpaste, vitamins, medications, supplements, and all the other crap we need to take today to be healthy? NO. Our poor eating habits and artificial foods are causing problems and slowly killing us.
Fresco 1,688
On 1/4/2021 at 4:47 PM, Chromatican said: This level of analysis is not helpful. A portion of obesity is definitely caused by simple gluttony, but a huge part of America's obesity problem is the existence of food deserts, fast food being cheap and readily available compared to healthy food, the subsidization of the meat and dairy industry as well as the prevalence of sedentary lifestyles and cost of gym memberships and growing economic inequality. Food deserts aren't the only problem. The junk food available in a food desert is engineered to cause people to crave to overeat it because it tastes so good, with addictive flavorings, addictive sugar and such. But a person can eat fast food/junk food and not be fat. I once watched a video of someone on a twinkie diet ( nothing but twinkies for a couple weeks, no weight gain, a small loss I think) and saw an interview of someone that ate a big mac for every meal for something like 10+ years and he was thin( No large sugar sodas and no fries. ) Junk food has a certain amount of calories and if you carefully count calories, pounds will not be gained even on junk food. Nutrient deficiencies will develop diseases tho. Vitamins can help, but nutritionists hate vitamins. Instead recommending that people eat huge amounts of greens that isn't practical(expensive and turns bad quickly) and doesn't taste good to many people. People hate to spend money on something they do not enjoy(spinach, kale, broccolli). The worst part about not having a grocery store nearby is that so much money is spent at restaurants. Cooking at home and carrying lunches from home is so much cheaper. Also, so many family style restaurants want to charge a big price for a meal, so they make every meal have enough calories for an entire day for a woman. And it is often not practical to take leftovers, so diners have to eat it all or throw it away. If restaurants would offer variable pricing based on calories provided, it would be customer friendly. But instead restaurants want $15 a meal whether it has 400 calories or 1800 calories. Pizza isn't a horrible food. The problem is that people have no idea how many calories are in a slice and overeat it because it tastes so good and they get fat. (it also probably has too much saturated fat and salt if eaten often) Soft drinks/sodas are the worst, imo. Sugary addictive and horrible for diabetics, with acid that eats tooth enamel and induces cavities. Horrible beverage that should be taxed as much as cigarretes are. Banning never works. People that drink large sugary sodas get soooo many extra calories, I don't even want to think about it. Diet sodas play a mean game on the body with the fake sugar, so they are not good either.
