 literally has nothing to do with vegans explicitly, Gwyneth Paltrow health food types that think celery juice will cure cancer are more their clientele. I personally avoid Whole Foods because it’s overpriced af and its ties to amazon.

I agree people should live a healthy lifestyle w a good diet, exercise, mental health support, etc. But, in order to do so, it costs MONEY. You can't buy fresh produce, supplements, or locally sourced organic ingredients on minimum wage. And I'm sure he cant even fathom that.

Plus, the comment about medicine is so off-putting in this time. A healthy lifestyle does not negate the need for healthcare or medicine. Like, the way out of COVID isn't by eating kale and taking ginger shots

As someone who has read a few diet books, this is not a new or unique concept. Look at type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Or even just type 2 diabetes. This is a preventable disease that can be cured by carefully managing diet. The disease is common and costs lots of money to treat with drugs. The eventual complications and surgeries for later complications add more to the cost. It would be much cheaper if people with type 2 diabetes could just prevent it or cure themselves by eating a careful diet. 

Some people want organic food, free of pesticides and herbicides, in a small store with limited choices so they don't get tempted to buy heavily processed empty calories. I can get whole foods easily at other stores without overpaying at Whole Foods, so I'm not a customer. I don't like the taste of their gluten-free products either.

I didn't read the entire article, but the headline is defendable, for certain diseases. Certainly not every disease can be treated with diet alone.  

Eating healthy does not have to be very expensive. Baked chicken with baked potato, carrots and a banana is cheap. Yes,  it's comparable to the cost of a big mac per serving. It's also commonly avalable, unless people are literally shopping at gas stations. 

Processed food adds salt, sugar, fats, and preservatives. Tastes good, lasts a long time. The additives are not as good for your health, but some cooks add all that in home cooking anyway.

It's also about planning. Some fruits and vegetables are more expensive than others. There's countless options to choose from. It's not easy but it's not impossible to eat healthy on a tight budget...

 

My family managed to avoid eating too much unhealthy food when I was young and we were dirt poor to the point where I had to take Luke warm baths in winter cuz we had to ration the propane

 

It's less convinient and more work to plan healthy eating on a budget and I think that's what truly deters people, not that it can't actually be done

My family is also poor and we ate quite healthy as my mom cooked everything from scratch and we almost never got ‘fast food’ except on birthdays, but that isn’t realistic for everyone. Also remember that food prices have increased since you were young, and inflation etc.

The government subsidizes meat, dairy and things like corn too much, they should subsidize fresh produce too. The reason people in third world/poorer countries can eat relatively “healthy” is because our produce comes from there, so it makes sense that locals would have access to by products/veg that wasn’t good enough to sell for cheaper, among tons of other factors.

It's true but there's still a lot of healthy or at least not overly processed things out there that are not particularly expensive... A few examples:

 

- baby carrots

- potatoes 

- beans 

- chick peas

- tuna

- rice

 

This is just a quick off the top of my head stuff there's certainly a lot more items. 

 

U don't have to buy pre packaged stuff or pasta all the time. There are affordable healthy or relatively healthy stuff too. But it takes work and preparation. I honestly think that's what truly ends up getting in the way
