also healthcare is preventative! If Americans lived in better conditions and had free access to healthcare they would be able to take better care of their health in the long run. I stg rich ppl are full of sh*t.

THIS.

His comments would make sense if everyone had access to FREE healthcare.

THEN we can blame the individual a bit more.

Ohhh boy :saladga:

Of course it would be wonderful if everyone had access to abundant, affordable healthy food! But that is not the reality for so many people, and that is not the moral failing of the individual, but governments and corporations.

This obsession with blaming people for their illnesses, just part of a whole system of looking down on sick and disabled people, and an excuse to not take care of the most vulnerable :madge:

Coca Cola intentionally has gotten many parts of Mexico addicted to their soda. In some parts it is more available than clean water.

Why? To sell more.

Should they be held responsible for the spike in diabetes? Absolutely.

Crimes against humanity.

This is the kind of capitalist garbage that rich people can't deal with, hence the individualizing of societal problems.

This isn't about anyone's personal experiences sweetie, it is about the fact that millions of people in America live below the poverty line (especially black and Indigenous populations) and have access to only fast food restaurants as well as liquor/corner-stores. Are you saying the 25% of Native Americans living in poverty are to blame for their circumstances then? The world needs to start caring about people or we won't survive this century with global fisheries set to collapse in 2050.

Clearly America is just on another level. I don't live there so I don't know. I'm not blaming anyone for the way the world is. I just wish people would wake up and smell the coffee.

We don't have anything like the NHS in the USA either.

And while we do have the NHS surely that would mean more people can afford to be unhealthy since it's free so I don't quite get your point?

Not gonna lie I am so mad about this lol it’s like saying “the best solution to poverty is to not be poor”. Is it technically true? Yes. Is it realistic and considering all the factors that contribute to the problem? Not even a single iota.

When you live paycheck to paycheck you can’t afford to eat extra healthy.

A lot of the world live paycheck to paycheck and can afford to live healthy. America clearly has let capitalism run wild because it isn't like that everywhere.

Lower income families can work full-time, still not make a livable wage, barely be able to afford their necessities, afford adequate childcare, and rapidly fall into a budget shortfall.

Poor people NEED protections like universal healthcare because as we see, they won't get them from these greedy corporations.

Yes. They intentionally make it difficult for poor people to eat healthy. Food deserts shouldn’t exist.

Guess it's time to bring back the slicey bois!  These ultra-rich capitalists are so friggin' disconnected from reality.  They should really just leave the commentary to medical professionals.  And, yes, I agree people being overweight is a huge problem in the US -- but the corrupt system caused this and food deserts.

Everyone in this thread is running around blaming the effect and not the cause.

This is true in some situations and for a lot of people, but what about those who are born with life long diseases and who actually need to visit a doctor to receive medication and tests to monitor those diseases? There are a huge number of people with pre-existing conditions that they were born with or acquired when they were young.
