BBC slammed for Alicia Keys singing about New York for London's New Year

Viewers have slammed BBC for using Alicia Keys to welcome in 2021 instead of British singers and criticise her 'out of tune' performance.

The singer performed a concert from Los Angeles on BBC One last night to bring in the new year. 
Alicia was also criticised for being out of tune, with many claiming they changed the channel during her performance. 

She also performed Empire State of Mind, a song about New York, for London's New Year immediately after midnight. 

Ratings for the evening showed that Jools Holland on BBC2 had more people tuning in.
from 11.45pm to midnight : BBC One - 5.2million viewers tuning in, Jools Holland 5.4million
from 12.15am to 12.30am : BBC One (Alicia Keys)  4.2million, Jools Holland - 5.4million

Most people were annoyed at how boring her show was - I tried to make it through but it was so boring. You need a lively show for New Years not her. Twitter was full of tweets saying how boring she was.

Imagine if the opposite happened and someone sang a song explicitly about London at midnight in NYC. People would poop their pants over that too. You guys just love to complain about people complaining.

Also there's a reason why artists usually tailor location names in songs to the places they're touring.
