This is focusing on a specific double standard among retail companies specifically that doesn't make a whole lot of sense when it comes to the lockdown exemptions based on carrying essential items Walk in retail has been declining steadily since the rise of the internet and amazon type buisness models specifically.... Throw a pandemic at the economy, and internet order / delivery growth lites up and walking business dies ... It's not a double standard , because the 'essential goods' is a gray term.... Grocery store chains are flourishing while restaurants are cut to pieces ... The lockdown is meant to prevent large gatherings ... so some of the 'non essential' type business is shut down... It boils down to undefined terms and leadership that doesn't know what they are doing .... I don't believe the decisions are made with malice but ingnorance. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. I don't think it's done out of malice either but I agree with the criticism If a store not selling groceries doesn't get to open during a lockdown because it's not "essential" I don't see why big box stores like Walmart or Shoppers that sell food on the side (food isn't even their main business) should get to keep entire operations running in turn The food side of the business is granting them an exemption for the entire business. The stuff they get to sell now is potential pent up demand gone for when others are allowed to re-open so competition wise it's unfair And again, it does increase traffic as well. If ppl were only allowed to buy groceries at these stores while the lockdown is in effect, the number of people in there and the amount of time they spend in there would be reduced which is kinda the point of a lockdown to begin with So again I happen to agree with this criticism. I don't think the government make a bad decision on purpose either. But I do think the way some other provinces did it makes more sense Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
