i think it’s because with streaming, people have more choice. they dont have to listen to one of the 40 songs on radio, they can listen to anything, therefore diluting hits. that’s why you probably haven’t heard half of the top 10 hits of this year, because you dont have to listen to them.

it’s a good thing imo, because people can actually listen to music they enjoy, and underground artists get more exposure

why this week, though, i dont know

but it makes sense... Christmas is over so the interest for Christmas songs is rapidly declining, and the regular music will start becoming interesting in the next few days again, this is the in-between period.
