StrawberryBlond 14,820
Lana is the first name I think of. I would've been fine with her making every album like BTD, I loved it that much, but she surprised me when she took on rock based influence and a new sound on her follow-up and always introduces and new sounds and vibes with every era. She's changed so much from that artist she started out where she was singing about sugar daddies and glamourising submissivity. That's why I know that any detractors she has who still bring up this stuff today as "all she sings about" have clearly not listened to much of her music post-debut. Other names that evolved well are Madonna and Xtina. I may not be her biggest fan but I applaud Taylor for trying different stuff in recent years and she's come some way from where she started. As for names that tried and failed to evolve, I'd say Katy, who has still yet to follow the right musical path for her which clearly seems to be acoustic but she keeps on remaining mainstream pop focused. And as for those who don't really try to evolve, I'd say Adele, Ed Sheeran (with very few exceptions) and basically every other acoustic-led male.
