Your point is not there. Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce and Taylor all do cash grabs. The people criticizing this era are nit-picking. The brand sponsorships are not out of the ordinary.

Taylor released two albums in a row and repeatedly posts about them, is everywhere talking about them, doing interviews, MVs... And the brand partnerships don't interfere with that.

My point IS there. My point is the ratio of brand stuff VS content of Gaga is 80% marketing 20% music/art, which is VERY different from other artists who sprinkle some corporate stuff there and there and even Gaga herself in the past.

I agree with you, and further to your point, it’s perfectly acceptable to hold Lady “reverse Warholian experience” Gaga to a higher artistic standard then her peers.

To quote Gaga herself, “I don't know what the ****-all I have to do with Katy Perry.”

Hm no, the word puppet would imply that she doesn’t have a say in what she does or is being forced to do these other endeavors, which isn’t true.

Taylor, Beyonce and Gaga are all being SMART with their future careers, and moving away from pop. It is sad to say, but the general public is not here for a lot of female singers past 35. Gaga needs to diversify or she will become an EDM singer who only appeals to people on this site.

And Rihanna who arguably was the first out of the ones you listed to do it

Why do posts like this get to be a thing? I wish that these negative type posts, bashing Gaga, got deleted.

This site should be for the Gaga fans. Not these so-called “fans” who do nothing but BASH her. :( There needs to be a change.

Don’t play with me, it just hurts me.

Gaga's net worth is estimated at around $320 million.  Some of the artists who's net worth is estimated to be higher than Gaga's are Madonna, Mariah, Beyonce, JLo, Rihanna, Taylor, Cher, and Katy.  Each has made more than enough money just through tours and music sales to retire for life.  None of them needs merchandise sales or endorsements, yet each of them either sells merchandise or has endorsements.  There are benefits to this in addition to money:  People are employed to make and sell the merchandise, and creating jobs is a good thing.  Fans feel good owning merchandise from their faves.  Gaga has said it makes a person feel good to put on makeup.  But it's more than that.  People feel good about putting on makeup, or whatever, from their fave.

I don't think Gaga should be criticized for having other endeavors outside of creating, performing, and selling music.  It's the norm to have other endeavors.

I live outside the space time continuum.

The last image is a collaboration with MAC that was philanthropic. I believe all profits from the sale of her lipstick went to an AIDS charity. Quite different then her Amazon lip crayons.

But I understand what you mean.

The kindness book and Oreo are contributing to BTWF but it doesn’t change that she’s putting her new music on the back burner for it

if she posted Viva glam like 7 times in a month you’d all say “ugh I know it’s philanthropic but I’m sorry I’m tired of that fkin lipstick”

Yep. Especially when there are SO many like this. I mean there's pretty much a new one every day saying the same thing.

Stupid Love was turned into a commercial for iPhones and an eye shadow pallet. Rain On Me was used in an Amazon commercial. 911 was used to promote LG TVs and Lamborghinis. Sine From Above was used to promote a designer fragrance. The only live performance of this era featured some dramatically over priced rain boot product placement. And of course, Chromatica Oreos. All her art this era has been commercialized and turned into a for-profit venture.

Add Tudor watches, a fragrance campaign, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, lip crayons, the immanent skin care line, the pre-era residency that became lucrative private "software people" and AT&T events, I think it's fair to say she isn't just using these ventures to "fund" her art, and that she is firmly interested in profits in a more substantial way then she previously was.

But.. pretty much everything you listed did just that lmao. Aside from Tudor, all of the list ventures have been connected to her work in some way.

We wouldn't have the Stupid Love, Rain On Me, or 911 videos without those sponsors. What some of you don't seem to understand is the record label only gives an artist so much money to stretch out for an entire campaign. The rest is up to the artist and their team to organize if they want something beyond what they've been given. The plan was to shoot 6 music videos on top of everything else she had planned as far as performances went. Interscope wasn't going to cover all those costs. Not to mention a stadium tour, which Live Nation will only pay so much to produce. The reason we've gotten so few videos the last three albums is because the label is not giving Gaga the amount of money she needs to do what she really wants. That's why the pandemic has been such a buzzkill for everyone, including Gaga, because there was a lot planned.

Besides that, of course she's interested in making more money in the general sense, because she's not just working for herself and it's not like she or anyone is making money off music. "Gaga" is not just one person or just an artist anymore and she hasn't been for a while. She's a brand. She has hundreds of employees working under her (and that's just the core), which is why she struggled the last few years reconciling who she is because it's a lot to have that many people depending on you for their sole source of income. A lot of fans are out here acting as if she's pocketing every dime she's making and it's honestly kind of gross and really unfair. Of course there is room for opinions, but at least be informed and consider why she's doing things instead of blindly calling people money hungry "puppets" who have no interest or passion in making art.

Lmao people are just complaining about Gaga's recent behavior. She doesn't interact much or talk about Chromatica, but shes always online to sell us stuff. Its not that deep no one is bashing anyone. Whether you agree with the OP or not, "bashing" is such an extreme word for a disagreement.

Lmao they blocked my signature

I think there is room for objective and constructive discussions like this, even if I find the initial question wrong. As people said Gaga is a brand now. She just can’t go guns blazing like 10 years ago where nothing is at stake. She literally payrolls people. We could argue about her strategy but I’ll digress with that.

If we’re talking about big pop stars, authenticity is basically a marketing strategy carefully curated. Do you really think Taylor just decided to do some folk sound all of a sudden? Nope, it’s a strategic realignment of her brand. As to the topic, I really don’t find anything wrong with Gaga doing all those commercial things mentioned. It’s always been like that with her career, from the countless product placements in her old videos to bs merchandise tie-up. The difference now is she is just in control of what she’ll represent.

As for the music, I am disappointed too. However I try to be emphatic with it. It’s unfair to compare her to other artists who are continually delivering despite the pandemic. I can only imagine what she’s feeling. Imagine years of hard work and careful planning being wasted because of a pandemic. Personally I’d lose motivation too. I don’t know if that’s the case with her but it’s not out of the realm. She literally has mental health issues that we just can’t assume how her mind works.

If we’re being cynical, imagine how her efforts from C2C up to this year were somehow wasted because of the situation. It was the last lap to securing her legacy. The icing on the cake yet COVID messed it up.
