reading is fundamental

What makes a hit, if not commercial success? Thats literally the definition of a hit. :ladyhaha:

I don't agree with that. It's probably just a language thing though, but to me, a hit and a commercial success are two different things. Obviously, a hit IS a commercial success, but I don't think commercial successes are necessarily hits. To me a hit is all about the impact outside of the stan world, if you hear it, if you hear people sing or mention it etc., radio plays play a big role too but they can be faked

Maybe that’s your opinion and it’s okay but if we look at it in the literal sense then a hit equates to something that has has sold well or is a commercial success. If a song has been streamed almost 500 million times then it’s clearly a hit. Might not be a smash but it is a hit.

As I said, it's probably a language thing, because the word “hit” is also used in French («un hit») and it's only about music, and about music as I described it above :)

ROM is bigger. It was a #1 US song and had a pretty solid moment within pop culture this year. ROM and ARUTW may have similar streaming figures but one had 2 whole years to reach those while the other was just released in May.

Not to say ARTW didn't do extremely well for a non-single in most countries but they're on different levels.

ARUTW sold a lot more pure though

ROM charted higher, was on Radio in many countries and will outstream ARUTW. Both are amazing tho and wished she released ARUTW as a single with the same promo as Shallow. It would've been even bigger.

Why is this turned into another thread of we minimizing Gaga’s impact and Gaga’s work as for the recent years. Don’t stay pressed and enjoy the music. Just wanted to make a point that Botha te similar as of today in streamings and video plays.

I know a lot of people who didn't know ROM until I told them. But these people knew about ARUTW even if they didn't watch ASIB and even before I asked them about it.

Overall ROM is a bigger hit but ARUTW was bigger than it in the countries it was released as a single. Had it been released WW it definitely would have been bigger than ROM. More wasted potential

Funny thing: here in Brazil Always Remember Us This Way gained a reggae version and is A HIT in truck drivers radios.

It's got 32 million views alone in this version.

Rain On Me could never!

Jokes aside, you guys are judging songs a hit based solely in USA performance. It was not a huge hit on the USA, but in several other countries it was indeed a hit.

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

Both hits in different ways, I guess. ARUTW is my single favorite Gaga song. I truly believe it would have been huge in the US had they released it as a single here. Everyone loves it. Like the way they like Adele songs.

But ROM was damn huge too. And now it's topping many of these best of the year lists. It's in the pantheon for sure.
