I'm laughing at how you ALL wont stand for @Jill making a joke but 99% of the members commenting here doesn't find anything wrong with Shawn mis-gendering Sam, the actual point of discussion + will give Shawn a pass for his rudeness but will drag Jill for using the word "reported". Seriously? Why? Because Shawn is just another rich muscular twink?

The absolute irony with this sh*t show is BEYOND.

Please provide me with the receipts showing that I defended Shawn Mendes :oprah: I made two posts  directed toward Jill and dropped the subject because they explained themselves. So why don't you take a seat? :yennefer:

right cause no one in the world knows sam smiths pronouns and shawn mendes is just exempt from knowing and following culture like we all do

.... did you not read my comment? :poot: not everyone on earth keeps up with pop culture and what everyone is doing, there’s so many people in the industry. There’s still people in the world who don’t know sams pronouns, and this was the same case, or he just forgot. There’s clearly no ill intent here

Ew that Jill person on the first page is exactly the type of person in real life who prays someone messes up somewhere so that he can use the opportunity to show how morally all-encompassing he is. :triggered:

When he threatens to report others who understand that Shawn probably has no ill intent and is just ignorant, u can already tell how easy it is for him to have no empathy for others. So much for being “woke” when u can’t even take the other side into consideration.

Yeah a lot of people do know but not everyone, and even the people who saw it didn't necessarily care enough or pay attention to remember every time... Even the Sam Smith defenders here slip up constantly, because it is normal to refer to someone as a sex - he/she and not they, it's the way it has been forever until very recently. So no wonder other people do also... You can't change the game and dictate that others follow suit as and when you/they decide it's time, especially when it concerns a subjective social issue like this, no matter how strongly you feel about it.

“they” has been used as a gender neutral singular pronoun for centuries lmao

Shawn worked with a Trans producer, and has been very supportive of LGBT rights especially trans rights. It was obviously a mistake and someone on his team should have told him about Sam Smith.

Yes, I'm aware "they" has been used to refer to single and multiple people for a long time, lmao. But it hasn't been a thing in this exact context until recently, maybe bar an absolute minority exception. People have always been he or she, above anything else. Not ONLY they/them. This is still new to a lot of people and tbh you can't dictate how and when people get on board with the concept of non-binary, if ever.

Everyone saying "he should have known (better)" is overestimating Sam Smith's popularity and visibility. I literally never think about Sam Smith unless someone else brings it up first.

I only know one transgender person in real life (I don't know them very well), and they don't make a big deal about it and neither do I. With all this said:

Honestly, many users of this site are always looking for ways to prove they're nicer, kinder, better people than everyone else and it ends up leaving the opposite impression along with a bitter taste in the mouth. If you want to get upset over actual instances of injustice, then good on you for calling it out. But if you'd prefer to invent them to score points in the game you're playing against your Twitter buddies to see who's the most- I'm gonna say it- woke, or who's the least problematic, or who's got the strongest morals, then go ahead and leave that at the door because it's not what this site should be for.

Well but if she's a fan she should know better :emma: I barely think about Sam Smith, it's only natural that I sometimes forget they are non-binary as they were male in my memory for so long, but if I were a stan...  :green:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Even if Shawn made it on purpose, don't yall think Sam should be the one to speak up? How do you know what Sam thinks about the situation? Nobody asked for your defense, save it for somebody who needs it.

What if Sam just prefers they/them pronouns but is totally okay with he/his pronouns? Many non_binary people I've met don't really care. How do you know it's not Sam's case?
