Canada has the highest vaccine contract count per capita in the world with a contracted supply of 400% of population or enough to innoculate each person once plus another 3 booster shots

Early on Canada made contracts with several companies including the more known ones pfizer and moderns so that regardless of which developed first supply would be available

Vaccinations are expected to begin next week starting with those 80 and over and those in nursing homes

Dunno if this is good or bad. Feels a bit like hoarding and that means less for some countries with less contracts

Also a lot of antivaxxers won't want them anyway. I literally was getting a filling today at dentist and the assistant was saying she's not getting one unless she's forced cuz she doesn't wanna drop dead from some side effect :toofunny:

Edit: yes I know it seems like my dentist visits always have some story worth telling :rip:

We're definitely hoarding them or this over-stocking seems to have a political disposition behind it.

I don't think the intention was to overstock per say. There was no telling which companies would have one available first so they just made contracts with a bunch

But this means some of the last contracts to be fulfilled may not be needed unless it turns out the immunity lasts very little time and we need more boosters than we thought

But if we don't we should give the extra away to poor countries that can't afford them. In a pandemic it would be inhumane to hoard vaccines like that

See, and here I thought Canada wasn’t going to have them (all) distributed until like May in a perfect world or something like that

Do you think it could be a trick to make money and potentially co-sign or sell the extra vaccines either under the table to the US or other countries?

This is Canada we're talking about... A country that increases in population by millions every single year because of how welcoming the country is to refugees and those seeking asylum. New Canadians may not have access to the vaccine where they are coming from, therefore, I think Canada is trying to be prepared in the long run.

The Canadian healthcare system is very much for the people. So they definitely want to have more than enough than not enough.

Totally.  Everyone knows there are 9 days in a week.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I think this was a good idea, we had no idea which ones would actually pan out.

I still think it's going to be long time until I (relatively young and healthy, low risk) get that icy-cold Covid juice into my veins... I want it now :deadbanana:
