I am not a fan, but I get her reach. She has sold over 200 million record sales to date. She has 10 Grammy awards. 32 AMAs (more than anyone). 23 Billboard music awards (most for any female). 12 CMA awards. 8 Academy of CMAs. She’s has been inducted into the Songwriter’s hall of fame - which I think will be where her legacy (as a songwriter) - She’s only 30

if you can argue she doesn’t have even a bit of influence in the music industry and on the wider public, go ahead

Because she’s a young cat lady, isn’t pure pop, hasn’t come into the music industry from a legislate place, and is from a white conservative republican family (a label she’s trying to discard). Doesn’t mean she is to be counted out. Her influences is huge and far reaching. She’s carrying much of the music industry these days and has been for years. 

watch her rise and rise. She’s going no where. And because her career is not built on sex, innuendo, oddity or gimmicks, her fans will follow her mature voice, words and musical stylings for years to come.

This kind of list is just dumb. Artists have influenced people in different areas. Some have influence over politics, music, fashion, lifestyle....

I honestly hate these kinds of lists because they always present themselves as ‘objective’ even though it’s clearly very subjective to each individual

but you listing how big her following is and her reach etc to her fans has nothing to do with her actual influence on the industry, she’s been successful but she has hardly taken any risks in her career that set her apart from her peers other than the fact that she is good at writing songs and is the celebrity that is Taylor Swift. She hasn’t made songwriting so much more important than it was before.
 

Most importantly is that she didn’t make anyone in the industry adapt to what she was doing nor did her arrival change the game for anyone who was already successful. 
 

many if not all the acts on this list were IT when they broke out, contributed something new and made the industry adapt to them and they change it forever. 
 

Taylor was simply really good at surviving in a system that was already constructed by playing off everything that already existed and was set up for her

Then explain Eilish’s influence over Swift’s?

You may have missed the point about awards. They are voted by industry insiders and other artists. Not the public. Therefore, to deny her influence on the industry is to deny her existence entirely. Including all her awards. She has many.

Also, her sales/popularity have a direct effect on the industry i.e jobs, profits, investment

Perhaps, she is a quiet influencer. She’s not Madonna or Gaga.

Of course she’s taken risks. She’s a woman who’s gone from country to pop to folk 

REM and U2 etc. are hardly major  risk takers either.

I dunno man. I’m not a fan. Maybe you should ask one of her fans. 

All I know is she’s a woman and compared to most of the men on the list she’s definitely deserves to be there! As does Bowie and Dylan!!!

The list is clearly made by middle aged men who were once into grunge/role/ indie and had long hair (Spin is that demographic). They made obvious  choices and rediculous choices, it’s clear it’s a bogus list without merit or sense. Maybe we should read all the 35 articles and then make a rational decision.

No Britney??? Yet Madonna (3), Billie Eilish (33), Lady Gaga. (28), Beyonce (26), and Gwen Stefani (No Doubt 35) have all cited her as some kind of inspiration....since 1998. Gaga said that the music industry would not be the same without Britney while honoring her with the lifetime achievement award at the 2011 VMAS. Least they forget, Blackout changed the pop landscape. Toxic has a huge reach across genres.

The fact that Finneas was immediately put on  to produce songs for Bieber, Selena Gomez, Demi proves the sound he made for her and she popularized has made an impact on the industry as well as her statement against body image and fashion.

Taylor to me has always been pop influenced by country, especially in the era she came up in when Colby Caillat and John Mayer were huge players in the pop sphere I don’t see Taylor really changing anything for anyone other than adapting to the landscape when it became more pop/dance/edm focused than it was. 
 

Take Shawn Mendes for example, it’s obvious he came after Taylor swift and fits the “boy with guitar” trope you presented, but he to me is much more of a combination of Justin Bieber and John Mayer than I would ever think of having Taylor Swift as an influence

No one doubts Finneas’ reach. But this is not about producers influence. It’s artists. And his influence is new. Like a few years. Swift has been around since 2002/2003. And she is an artist. In that she conceptualises, writes, produces, sings, performs her own work. 

You are arguing now without merit. Obviously not a fan. Which is fine. Me neither. Let’s agree to disagree. The list sucks ass!

btw where is Bjork? Arca? Daft Punk? Dylan? Springsteen? Mercury? Timberland? Bowie? They appear to have changed the music industry in their own (weird) way. the more I think about it, the more people come to light. If one was to “solely” look at the influence of pure artistry then I haven’t a clue cause I’m not an artist and neither am I in the biz. Just a spectator.
